Berkeley EECS or GTech EE??

I am a transfer student from California, and got offer from both Berkeley and GTech. I don't know which should I pick. I want to choose signal communication for my upper division classes. I know Berkeley rank #2 and GTech rank #6 in EE. So, both are top 10, so I don't the ranking really see the difference of the school. I know Berkeley is harsh, especially for the EECS. I heard many students studying really hard but still get low GPA. I can't bear the life with no social life and have to study 15 hours per day. So, I am thinking GTech as my first choice. I haven't make up my mind yet. I am still asking for advices. How do you guys choose? What criteria will you guys consider? Ranking? Environment? Job opportunity? Campus Life? or more??

I know I have too many question to ask, but it is really a big decision for me. I cannot make this decision on my own. So please help me if you have any idea....

Berkeley EECS is probably better for job opportunities since it has computer science in it as well. Also, I hear GT is harder than Berkeley. My brother is an EECS undergrad at Berkeley right now and he says some people there say things like "At least we're not at Georgia Tech..." whenever someone complains about the difficulty and stress the program puts on them, since GT is notorious for being a hard school.

Just putting a real-life example. However, there is no denying that you'll probably have a butt-load of opportunities at both schools. But in the case that you end up not liking in Engineering or something, Berkeley would be a much better school to fall back on.

So you meant Georgia Tech is more difficult than Berkeley??
I haven't heard this before.......kinda make me nervous rite now

Can anyone give me more opinion on choosing either Berkeley EECS or GTech EE...THANKS!!!!!!

"I heard many students studying really hard but still get low GPA. I can't bear the life with no social life and have to study 15 hours per day."

I thought you were talking about tech..haha...that was my experience at GT. Anyway, it might just come down to location/people. You will have great work opportunites from both. Tech is mainly an engineering school and most of the campus is filled with engineers, where as berkeley is more well rounded. You'll appreciate the better social atmosphere at berkeley during the remaining 9 hrs of your day.

So vblick, if you were me, how would you choose?
I am still struggling about these two choices..
What is the average GPA for a EE student in GT?

Thanks for your advice anywayz...

That's hard to answer. For me my family lives in GA and I had in state tuition so the school was dirt cheap.

The GT campus is small and quiet. It really promotes that study atmosphere that I needed in order to get into the groove. A lot of schools have a lot of distractions and I didn't find that at tech. Sad to say but the school really gives off a strong nerd vibe. Some people seek a huge life altering experience when they go to college. For me that wasn't the case at all. I wanted to get an EE/Cmpe degree and I knew it was going to be a horrible 4 yrs in doing so.

So you need to really consider the atmosphere you want to be in. I don't know much about Berkeley but I do know it is near the bay and that the student body is much more diverse. If you want to work in CA i'm sure having a Berkeley degree in EE would definitely get you the kind of job you want. Yes Tech grads get highered and work all over CA, but a lot of the time companies would rather interview local candidates because it's cheaper. So I would think companies on the west coast would favor Berkeley grads more.

I’m not sure what tuition is like between the two so that has to be considered.

Btw, ATL doesn’t really have that much going on. People rant and rave about things to do but I disagree. I lived in GA for 13 yrs, 20 miles North of GT and other than going to sporting events/few museums/ aquarium I didn’t find that much opportunity for fun. At Berkeley you’d be able to go up and down the coast and surf etc….
