For transferring, is there a difference between EECS and L&S Computer Science?

Different pre-reqs, different majors, different requirements, etc. If your focus is CS, the degrees are more or less the same. They have different GE requirements, and slightly different major requirements.

EECS (BS): Pre-reqs are mostly technical classes. You need maths, physics, CS, etc. I think english is the only non-technical pre-req. Admissions is tougher, because EECS admits by major (which also means that once you’re in, you’re in).

L&S (BA): I think there’s more focus on IGETC/GE? Though there’s probably some STEM requirements as well. Check assist.org, I know it’s different than EECS transfer requirements. L&S is typically easier to get into, since it admits everyone undeclared. But that also means you need to complete pre-reqs after transferring, keep at least a 3.0, and then declare your major after that, which could be a bit stressful.

For major requirements, EECS requires Physics 7A, 7B and a third science course (not a “for poets” course), Math 53, and both EE 40 and 20N. L&S CS requires any one of EE 40, 42, or 20N for graduation (though the ASSIST reports no longer seem to mention that as it is not a prerequisite for declaring the major; it would still be advantageous to complete it before transfer).

L&S accepts IGETC to complete breadth requirements; EECS follows engineering breadth requirements (English R1A, R1B and four additional humanities and social studies courses, of which two must be upper division (cannot be taken before transfer) and two must be in the same department (including at least one upper division).

Both require the following courses:
English R1A, R1B
Math 1A, 1B, 54
CS 61A, 61B, 61C, 70 (these courses are difficult to find at CCs)
