Initially, I was really gung ho about doing EECS at Cal cause I've heard so many good things about it. However, today I found out that I was named a Research Scholar at USC. Basically it guarantees me a research opportunity and earn up to $3000 doing so. USC isn't ranked as high as Berkeley in ECE/EECS but this is making SC a lot more tempting. I know I'll have opportunity to do research at Cal also but it might have to go out of my way to attain it. Which university do you guys think would open up more doors for me after undergrad? Which would offer me a better undergraduate experience? Thanks for all your input!

Any ideas...?

Can someone weigh in on this...I really can't decide where to go...

Go to Cal.

It's very easy to find a research position at Cal, especially if you're in EECS.

You can find a paid position doing research quite easily. Many of my friends did it, through EECS and through Lawrence Berk. National Lab. Profs at Cal have a lot of funding..they will easily supply you with 3000+ dollars worth of materials, equipment use, etc if you're serious about research.

The tuition money you save by going to Cal vs. USC would be like awarding yourself tens of thousands of dollars. Now compare that to USC's 3000 dollar "gift". You're going to pay them all that tuition so they can "guarantee" you a meager 3,000 dollars of your tuition money back???

Don't be duped by USC's scheme.

Hope that helps.
