Berkeley - EECS

Hi all,

Here are my stats:

Out of State Applicant
GPA: 4 UW/ 4 W
Race: Asian American
SAT: 2100 for now; retaking in October and projected 2310
SAT 2: Math 2 - 800; Chemistry - 740
AP Classes Taken: World History, Chemistry, Calculus BC
Currently enrolled in 6 AP Courses

EC's:
NHS
40 hours of service
2 internships at startup companies
Math league - 4 years
Tech Club - 2 years
Creating a website at the moment for a business
More that I can't really think of at the moment.

Based on this information, do I stand a reasonable chance or is Berkeley a reach?

Your weighted and unweighted GPA is the same even though you took AP courses?

I think you have around a 40% chance of admission with your projected SAT retake.

Thanks, I chanced back.

Also forgot I’m an AP Scholar with Honor haha. Strong teacher and counselor recs too.

Provided you actually get a 2310 on the SAT, you have a very strong chance of getting admission as the UCs are very objective. Again, it depends on your major, but you should still be good

Berkeley doesn’t look at recs. You have a good chance of making CS at LNS without the SAT retake. With the SAT retake and 2300+, you have a solid chance at EECS.

Thank you for your advice with LNS. Assuming I don’t get a 2310 because I tend to have test anxiety on test day, what is the minimum score you think that I would need to make it into Berkeley? Also, does Berkeley give high regard to the essays?

Edit: Just a general note, I’ll chance back if you leave the link to your thread.

Essays don’t matter for UCs unless you are on the borderline- I think for EECS, you are either on the borderline or below their standards, which means essays will definitely matter for you.

Additionally, your SAT won’t matter too much for UCs in general- they place a much greater emphasis on grades. EECS is pretty competitive though, so SAT’s will start to matter.
