Did you guys get a B or below in any math or science course? If so, which class, and was it honors/ AP?

Did you get anything below a B in any courses?

Thanks!

I’m going to Cal for engineering and I got 2 B’s in Chemistry and 1 in English. Both honors.

you’re allowed to get B’s in classes. Just because you get a B or two or three won’t be the main cause of why you don’t get in. UCB takes a hollistic approach to admitting students. If you’re other stuff is solid, a few B’s in honors/AP classes aren’t bad.

Even if I got a B in AP Calculus? (given I skipped precalculus)
I’m afraid this might look bad if I’m applying for Engineering.

If you do well on the AP exam for Calculus, I think that will cancel out the effect of the B.

I’m an engineer here. I had a 4.0 unweighted GPA in high school, but my high school was super super laid-back, nothing compared to Berkeley.

ahh… i have like a 3.8 unweighted 4.2 weighted… I go to a private catholic high school.

Ahh I know i’m capable… I just need to prove it! X[

2 Bs junior year
-B first semester IB Physics 1
-B in second semester of BC Calc

1 B Senior year
-B first semester of MV Calc

my UW gpa is like 3.87, or thereabouts but my weighted is out of control because I’m an IB diploma kid - my transcript reads something like 4.66 weighted (i think uc caps it before this point)

and I’m out of state… oh and i got a B 2nd semester of algebra 1 in 7th grade! lol

@Blackroses216: I had that same GPA and I got accepted, relax!

Sophomore year, I got a B first semester in geometry honors. Got all A’s in math/science otherwise.

But my overall GPA? Shocker. about 3.6 UW, 4.2-4.3 W. (though I do go to a competitive high school) My personal statements didn’t even mention engineering, so I was freakishly worried that I wouldn’t get into any decent school, but I got into all UC’s for engineering. Then again, even though I didn’t feel comfortable churning out an essay dealing with why I wanted to do engineering, I love my personal statements. I wrote about not liking my parents (PS1) and about how I enjoy drawing/art (PS2).

Load up on those science courses you love so much~ AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics B, Physics C. Best of luck!

^ lol you wrote about not liking your parents and they were totally cool with it?

I thought they’d look down on that somehow…

^ LOL i’m thinking the same thing.

^ That’s hilarious. Well, Cal is liberal, so what do we know… ^_^

I got a B in both semesters of AP Calculus. (But i got a 5 on the exam) I also continually get B’s in English. My gpa is like 3.7/4.5.

^ That gives me so much hope, no joke. It’s good to take a break from seeing all the people on here who have like a perfect gpa and sat, a million awards, and are like do i have a chance?

It’s good to know smart people who aren’t perfect get in too! :]

^ I still want to know how that guy got away with writing about not liking his parents lol.

haha, actually out of all the math classes ive taken i have had half Bs so far… although this year statistics is a breeze for me.
