Do any of you, or do you know anyone, who volunteers at the Free Clinic?

Once I get settled down, I really want to. So I am also interested.

Berkeley Free Clinic is a horrible place for volunteers. Why? Because BFC has this philosophy:: "doing through being." What that means is that they expect you to be a recovered/recovering alcoholic or drug addict or mental case so that you may beable to truly and properly relate to patients in those conditions....or so I hear.

I heard there was a ridiculous long amount of time commitment you have to put in every week.

rocky, there is an orientation on the August 21st, if you feel like going.

Pick your extracirrcular activities wisely...

I have faith in my wisdom.

Too soon I think for me. That would be the day after I move in. I'm shooting to attend the September 18th or October 16th orientation. From it's own website it says it has 180 volunteers for a total of about 31000 man hours. This translates to an average of 172 hours per year per volunteer. If you were to volunteer every week of the year that is a little more than 3 hours per week. Of course, that doesn't factor in holidays and breaks where you might not be there.

Sorry for the math.

the person from the agency said about 3-6 hour committment per week. But there is like 6 month training program.
