Is it hard to get into top ranked grad schools if i go toberkeley bc of grade deflation? I know its different for everyone but generally speaking overall, compared to other undergrads like emory. I want to get into a chemistry grad program.
It used to have that reputation a decade ago. So, maybe it was before, but it no longer is the case these days.
Today, if you work hard, you will get top grades. You basically will get the grades according to how much effort you’ve put in. If you didn’t do well in exams, of course, you don’t expect to get good grades in return. But, I think Berkeley has more grade inflation now than the other way around, given the overall GPAs have been rising over the decades. There are more students now who graduate with top grades (honors). But yhen again, maybe it could also be because Berkeley has been decreasing its admit rates over yhe decade (from around 25% a decade ago to around 14% now, and even lower for OOS (10%) and International Students (7%). Which means, the everage Berkeley student these days is smarter/academically stonger/more accomplished then a decade ago.
