Berkeley Grading

Hello all,

I'm an out-of-state student who just got into Berkeley as a transfer student for the Fall '12 semester. I had a quick question regarding grades, since I read somewhere that Berkeley does have grade deflation.

I got into berkeley as a Molecular Cell Biology major. Is it the grade deflation really bad? or are the courses just that difficult? I got accepted with a 3.75 GPA and by the end of this semester I should have around a 3.8

I do plan on applying to medical school so, unfortunately, GPA is a huge deal to me. I did also get into University of Michigan (I'm from Michigan) where I have heard the grading there is hard too, but not to the extent at Berkeley.

Any feedback is appreciated.

[National Trends in Grade Inflation, American Colleges and Universities](http://www.gradeinflation.com/) says that Berkeley had average GPA of 3.27 in 2006, and Michigan had average GPA of 3.27 in 2008 (see the school list on the bottom).

Of course, differences between departments may not be the same at each school.
