Berkeley: History vs. Anthro?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on moving out west to attend BCC for a year, then attept transfer to UCB. Anyone have any feedback on these 2 majors? I hear anthro is very competative at Berkeley. Any info on acceptance in their History program?

Thanks!

i dont think anthro is competitive at all… if u maintain at least a 3.5, you should be golden for anthro. not sure about history

You can check admission rates for History on StatFinder. For Fall 2009 CC transfers, the admit rate was 25.6%.

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/default.aspx)

At UCB History is actually harder to get into than Anthropology, since it’s a social science.

Also take into account that the history department requires an honors thesis for graduation (35-50 pages). You can’t get honors in the history department without receiving at least an A- on your thesis regardless of your overall/departmental GPA. (And with an A you still have to be nominated for committee consideration for magna or summa). Just a thought.
