so i already got accepted to uc davis, ucsd, and ucla as a freshman but my mom unfortunately has breast cancer. I can't leave socal because that would be messed up and family comes first. If im going to stay here im thinking of going to a community college and then transferring because i can transfer to berkeley (?). and i can save a lot of $$. Do you guys know if they offer like a guaranteed admission or something like that?

um, let me get this straight. So you cant leave so cal, because "that would be messed up," but you are willing to go to berkeley if they accept you later? lol Also, UCLA is in so cal, so you wont be leaving that far.

well i live in san diego and la is like 3 hours away.. and im thinking of transferring in like 2 years or whatever... but i want to see if i can get like priority or something

I don't believe that you will get any priority considering that the UC transfer admissions process does not review your high school record.

If money is the issue, then yes community college is the cheaper way to go.

However, if that is not the main reason, then UCLA is in southern california and only 1.5-2 hours away from San Diego.

Berkeley does not have a guaranteed admissions program anymore.

or you can just go to UCSD. it's not a bad school, you know.

if you werent going to go to sd whats the point of applying

People apply to schools they don't want to go to as safeties. One of my friends got rejected from UCLA this year as a freshman applicant with a 2350 and a 4.15. Another got rejected from UCLA despite getting into Dartmouth. Considering the presumable competitive strength of applicants this year, it seems like it was a very smart idea to apply to safety schools.

Yeah, it seems like staying with your family and saving some money would be a wise decision. Since you obviously did well in HS to get into those schools, if you keep up the hard work you should have no problem getting back into UCSD and UCD, as well as a good chance for UCLA and UCB if you work really hard.

it was free since i used the fee waiver

yeah but the point of a safety school is that you go to that school if you dont get in other schools.

which in this case he is not

His family situation probably changed things...

im a girl btw

I am still confused; why would you want to go to berk but somehow want to stay close to home? Isnt going to berk defeating the purpose? Just go to ucsd or something.

ima berkeley hopeful! :0

"im a girl btw"

Haha, my bad, I guess I should have looked at your name.

"I am still confused; why would you want to go to berk but somehow want to stay close to home? Isnt going to berk defeating the purpose? Just go to ucsd or something."

In a couple of years, the family situation will likely be very different.

my birthday is also on april 27. oh yea, DO NOT go to CC for two years, maybe you can tell UCLA you're going to forgo your first year there and see if you can get into berkeley within one year at community college? I'm not sure what the specifications are skipping your first year at a college you have intended to go to but my friend did it. CC is depressing.. people twice your age there, group projects with people that just don't care, a bunch of weird looking people, crappy campus, ewww

But her family could probably really use the extra cash they could save by her goin to CC, and plus it gives her a chance to later get into Berkeley.

OP:
Stay in Socal with your mom and attend UCLA. If you attend a community college, you'll basically start from scratch and will have to get near perfect grades and the whole shebang to be admitted to Berkeley.
In my opinion it's too risky and perhaps your mom will need you more than ever in two years.

RCHANG don't you go to ccsf? lmao

If so I 100% agree with you.
