I think that there are still some openings at the Channing-Bowditch Apartments. I just signed my lease and was given a list of room choices (don't necessarily accept the first room assigned to you - look at its location in the building and always ask if there are more options). Wada is okay but it's extremely drab inside (lots of unpainted concrete walls and concrete ceilings in the bedrooms).

wut about the regular unit 1,2,3 housing

will i probably be put in with a lot of freshmen if i get into that?

also isnt channing-bowditch based on a 12 month plan or something?

what bout foothill

I have an important question:

Is housing based on a lottery system or first come first served basis?

Hey disengage, you can sign up for a 12 month lease for the Channing-Bowditch, but it's not mandatory. It's optional and people who sign up for it, are given priority over every other student.

disengage, I'm not on a 12-month lease (although I could have signed one). I'm currently living in the Wada Apartments at Unit 2. It is quiet but the apartment is a bit bleak (industrial and concrete). Wada is only for upper-division and transfers so it's a lot more mellow than other units. (Not quite as much screaming in the hallways).

itchy, Unfortunately I've never been over to foothill. Anybody else know anything about it - please chime in...

Remmert, I think that it's a little of both. There is a lottery but after the initial draw they try to accommodate everyone that they can. It helps to make regular visits or calls to the housing office which is located between Units 1 and 2. If you end up on the waitlist try the Co-ops or Cal Rentals because you have been put into the dead zone. Even if you get a place you probably won't know until the end of summer (and that leads to a very stressful break indeed).

CalBear2009. It says that housing is guaranteed for transfer students as long as we apply by the June 2nd deadline.

I don't really get what you're saying -- would the "initial lottery" be held after the June 2nd deadline or...?

a 12 month lease meaning we have to pay all 12 months instead of 9 months of academic year?
so 12 months includes summer as well... right?

Remmert, yes housing is guaranteed for transfers. But the lottery decides where you will live and with how many roommates. Living with one roomie isn't so bad. Three to a room gets a bit crowded (at least that has been my observation). I was fortunate to get any housing when I got here. I applied mostly for singles. The housing office assumed that I had a disability since those are the students who usually apply for them and I was taken out of the loop. I didn't know that a mistake had been made until they requested proof of disability. At that point I was lucky that a spot opened up at Wada for a double.

oh gawd let me ask u guys smth..
y is foothills so expensive? 16000? academic year is about 9 months right?
wada apts is 8518
thats like 1/2 the price?

channing is per month so for 9 - 10 months its about 8-9k?
thats still almost 1/2 the price of foothills...
do they have pedicure and spa services at foothills or smth?

Guardianangel: Isn't the price at Foothill inclusive of a meal plan, whereas a meal plan is not mandatory at Wada?

I still think campus-provided housing is a bit of a rip-off. It's at least $200 more per month than any other living situation in Berkeley, but I still applied just in case. If I get Channing-Bowditch, I might move in just for the experience. If I get Wada or anything else, I don't really know what I would do for the month that it closes in the winter so I would likely turn it down.

I'm on the waiting list for the co-ops for fall, which is quite long. (The men's waiting list is shorter for some reason, though.) I applied for housing in February, but I've heard of people applying a year in advance. According to the last email I got from the co-ops, there are potentially 250 more spots that might open in July if those people who still haven't committed to the contract don't commit. I doubt that most people applying to the co-ops now would get a spot for fall, but maybe they would for spring.

seriously i m going in for summer and iono what to do
move out for summer session is aug 15
move in for fall semester is aug 23rd
where is all my stuff gonna go in this whole week?

what do international students do?
i m no intl student but i really hate moving my stuff to socal and back every semester

@guardian

cheapest motel you can find for the week?

y can't they have like a thing for people not from the bayarea...
meh i'll just put my stuff at storage and go home for the week

i heard that other schools the day one semester's move out begins is another semester's move in
some schools have early move-ins too
but nooooo berkeley has to be so cool about it

Haha, I was wondering about that too Guardiangel. I was thinking about putting my stuff in a small uhaul and just sleep in it for a week. That of course, would make me really really smelly, so I'll probably stay over at my cousin's at San Fran.

hey we could pretend to be boyscouts and roast marshmallows in people's park
i mean psh >_> i really feel like a hobo now, no sense of belonging and security
and seriously i can't survive without a full powered desktop with 9 series geforce
with superb USB sound system.
meh =.= can u imagine me being forced to move out and i'll be at the side of the streets pushing this shopping cart with my PC in it with some jackets and blackets in the cart

Hm... it'd be fun if you could crash at one of the computer labs at CAL. I can imagine it now...7.1 audio setup, with a fully decked out comp with a quad-core processor, 16 gb of ram using XP 64-bit OS, and 4 9800 GX2 in SLI... Ooh, and do like a triple monitor setup with the LCD's there! It'd be like, "Hey I can play Crisis with ease!"

But yea, that would be horrible... for the computer. Hahaha...

are people going to give me **** if my roor stinks up the floor?
i mean i have my dr's note after all and Berkeley the city is way pro MMJ...
