this might be a little early to post because people are still celebrating.. but where are you going to stay? dorms? university apartments? or off campus?

i'm from southern cal and not sure where i should stay esp. since i dont really know anyone up north

you can ask in the univeristy’s thread to see what past transfers have done

I’m probably just going to stay on campus.

I agree with KC, on-campus apartments are ridiculously over priced for the cramped apartments. I’m too old to do the dorm thing as well. The most reasonable option right now would be to live off campus in an apartment. It’s cheaper and much more bearable as far as privacy and personal space go.

If I go to Cal, I’m leaning towards off campus as well… do you think it would hurt our social lives, though, to live off campus?

Dem Bones-are you male or female? Are you going to need a roommate?

going to let y’all know, any of you need help figuring out neighborhoods, please consider me a resource. i’m a berkeley local and know the town very well.

i mentioned on another board, but if you’re looking to live off campus, there are apartments and houses in both albany and el cerrito; both are a little cheaper than berkeley and both have bart stations so you can take that to school.

cheers and good luck you new bears!

i think i might do on campus my first year then off my last. i like my space, but i think it’ll be harder to meet people if i’m off campus

kc- I’m male, and I really have no idea what I am going to do about housing right now. I am probably going to need a roommate though because I’m pretty sure I want to live off campus, and having a roommate makes sense economically. I have to research the area more thoroughly.

About how far is albany from the school proper? I’m looking at living in University Village Apts.

i’ve been looking at Wada and Channing-Bowditch
i think these are fairly reasonable
the dorms are wayy too expensive

^ I think Channing Bowditch will be my best bet because a) I don’t want Cal’s meal plan and b) I’ll need summer classes, so the 12 month lease is a blessing in disguise. At the same time, that rent is RIDICULOUS for how many people are crammed into one little apartment/townhouse. I will totally room with anyone here who is not a serial killer and can find something close to campus.
