Berkeley housing?

What have you guys heard about the different halls?
Rate your picks and why...

1 & 2 because I heard 3 hasn’t been remodeled yet. I’m not sure though. Can anyone confirm?

That park next to unit 2 is pretty sketchy. Lotsa homeless people there.

People’s Park ftw [People’s Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](People's Park - Wikipedia)

@foothill transfer: yeah unit 3 has not been remodeled yet but the only plus about unit 3 is that its closer to campus than 1&2

Unit 3 is just a block from the gym. Unit 3 ftw.

i want to do unit 1 bc mini-suites there are renovated, has a little gym, close to the big gym, and it’s close to campus. i want to do unit 2 (second choice) bc of the same options & houses transfers in its mini-suite building (also renovated). however, unit 2 is apparently far from everything so that’s why i prefer unit 1 atm

@jyi90: yeah I agree but i have heard that the suites and apartments are kind of antisocial and you don’t really branch out as much as you would in the regular dorms… anyone know if this is true?? Also, if you don’t do the wada apartemnts do they still pair transfers up with transfer roomates?

I read that housing for spring admits isn’t guaranteed but then I read on the housing website that it is guaranteed. Which one is it?

that’s what i’ve also heard, but i’ve also heard that it’s what you make of it. i just don’t wanna share a bathroom -_-. i’m going to say that if you branch out to be social, you’ll be fine. i don’t wanna mingle w/baby freshmen anyway.

for unit 2, there’s a transfer dorm (mini-suites), Towell Hall (sp?). Transfers & upper div ppl get priority in there. I read somewhere on this site that they try to match ppl w/matching statuses (transfer w/transfer, etc.). Not too sure about that though.

Yeah transfers get priority in the Wada and Channing-Bowdwitch apartments(these come with a little kitchen, living room and bathroom that you’d be sharing between four ppl if u were in a double). Wada is located in Unit 2 while Channing is its own little complex. The Towle Suites(no kitchen or living room, and youd be sharing a bathroom between 4ppl in a double) are also in Unit 2 and give priority to undergrads and transfers.
My problem is I would rather live in a Unit 1 suite than a Unit 2 suite but am afraid to be dormed with a freshman in a Unit 1 suite since they dont give priority to undergrads…
Wada is definitely an option I’m considering just because of the space and the small living room and kitchen(although I’d get a meal plan anyways)
Unit 1, 2, 3 dorms seem out of the question since I’d be around mostly freshman but the social factor seems fun…
Any thoughts?

I stayed in Unit 2 for transfer weekend and it was a lot nicer than I expected. It was a bit of a walk from campus, though. Unit 3 is the closest one to campus.

Wada was AWESOME! The rooms were so spaceous, the living room was too, and the kitchen was really nice. They even have housekeepers that come and clean your bathroom and kitchen once a week. Also, the bathrooms at Wada are set up like so: You walk into the bathroom door, sink on your right, then there’s a toilet stall and a shower stall. So theoretically you could have someone in the toilet, someone at the sink, and someone in the shower at the same time with privacy. But at the same time, you’re only sharing it with 3-5 people, not an entire floor like the units.

officeparties: we’re on the EXACT same boat!! however, I HEARD that they’ll try to match ppl up with similar statuses (transfers w/transfers, etc). not sure though. I still want to do Unit 1 as I’m tired of the long commutes to my current campus and I want to be close to campus.

Any benefits in living w/regular students(Unit 1)? Any benefits in living w/transfers (Towle Hall, Unit 2)?

I’m really confused by this whole unit 2 thing. I know that Wada is in Unit 2, but are there other places in unit 2 I could live? Basically, I’d need to live somewhere where I’d be considered “on-campus” for financial aid purposes, and I know that Wada is not. Or would all transfers probably get stuck in Wada or some apartment?

jyi–there are actually apartments closer to campus than the units. If you want to live super close to campus, check out Unit 3 or even some of the apartments on telegraph. The “on campus” dorms and apartments aren’t technically “on” campus. They’re just really close to campus. You still have a 5-20 minute walk either way if you stay in the dorms or in an apartment off campus

ok. i want to live in a residence hall though, preferably a mini-suite (unit 2/1??). Oh well, exercising is good for the body! thanks
