Berkeley L&S + AP scores + IGETC =???

I'm getting pretty frustrated because no one at the counseling office at school can give me a straight answer on whether getting a 3 on my AP Lit exam & using it to clear Engl1A (aka Freshmen Composition) on the IGETC is OK with Berkeley..

I hope that didn't sound too confusing >_< but basically: I turned in my AP Lit score of a 3 & recieved credit for Engl1a for IGETC and I know that for Berkeley's College of L&S, you can use the IGETC as subsitute for their Reading & Composition requirement but I've also heard that Berkeley only accepts a score of 4 or 5...

So does this mean I have to take Engl1a again because I got a 3 even though IGETC allows me to use that to cover its Engl1a req (wow I sound repetitive sorry T-T)... even if it's not a major prereq?? My friend told me for Haas, it specifically says that 3s are NOT accepted for Engl1a but the English major page (on assist) says nothing about that..

Note: & unfortunately, I'm an English major T_____T;; so I hope it doesn't look too bad that I'm taking Engl1a so late... (I'm applying this fall)

Thank you!

Depends on your CC’s igetc. If they take the 3 for eng 1a, they will count it for your the igetc. The IGETC is an agreement between the UCs and your specific CC. I don’t know about Haas though.

I got into Cal as an English major (this is me trying to build random rapport).

Anyway, why don’t you just take the English composition class at your community college? If you’re an English major, think of it positively–that is, a GPA booster.
