Berkeley L&S Transfer Fall 2010 looking to apply for Haas

It states on the Haas site that "Students admitted as junior transfers to UC Berkeley's College of Letters & Science or other majors are NOT eligible to apply to the Haas Undergraduate Program."

I know there must be people who have applied and gotten accepted.

You apply directly into haas as a business administration major as a transfer student. You can’t apply as another major such as econ and then transfer into haas, not possible.

yeah thats what people in 06 and 07 did for UCLA. They would apply for Linguistics then transfer to Econ.

i hate people like that

Does anyone knows the accepted rate for Haas each year?

I think the transfer acceptance rate is between 2 and 4 percent but I could be wrong.

you are correct its like 4%

6.8% according to the pamphlet they gave me when i visited berkeley, but the admission lady did say that its a lot higher than that because if you dont meet all the requirements they don’t even look at your app. so if you have all the requirements done your chance is a lot higher. In UCB’s other programs they still look at it even if you have missing requirements

Overall it’s 6% but thats deceiving because the vast majority don’t even complete the prereqs. Out of those who completed prereqs, the transfer rate jumps dramatically to 25%.

^ there’s a flaw with that thinking though. To re-iterate what Perfectsky mentioned…

Let’s assume there’s only 101 spots available, given that 1491 applied and let’s also assume they were all eligible, 101/1491 = roughly 6.8% (so the pamphlet is right).

If you clicked on the link, you would see that out of the 1491 that applied, 402 were actually eligible. The 6.8% is correct, I’m not denying that. All I’m saying is that the major reason why it’s so low is the vast majority of applicants don’t complete prereqs.

I’m just trying to point out that if **all **1491 applicants were eligible, it’s 6.8%, and therefore the number ~25% can be very misleading.

I’m debating whether i should waste my energy and time arguing about this… nah

I have no idea why you agree with perfectsky and not me. I’m basically backing up what he just said with data. w/e

“1089 applicants did not show planned completion of the admission requirements and were considered ineligible. Of the 402 eligible applicants, 101 (25%) were offered admission.”

So I’m confused, basically 1089 people applied to Haas knowing that they didn’t meet the requirements of transfer by the fall?

They didn’t meet the “planned completion”, I thought Haas wanted everything done before you even applied, but these people didn’t even have their pre-requisites done by the time they planned on transferring? WHAT?

There’s got to be more to it.

its not just not meeting the requirements. Haas does background checks and a lot of people lie about their extracurriculars and get rejected for this reason.
