Can you get a discount on laptops for being a Berkeley student? I know through other universities, you can get a special package that has all the hardware and software requirements for that university. Sometimes, they also give it for a lower price. Anyone have any info?

As a Berkeley student, you do get student discounts at the big stores; examples include Apple, Dell, IBM, and Sony.

You may purchase a notebook computer directly from the companies or go to the Scholar's Workstation (Berkeley's computer and electronics and everything tech you need shop) and buy a specially prepared computer.

At the same time, Berkeley doesn't have specific "special packages" but they do have recommended student requirements which may be found on http://www.rescomp.berkeley.edu/

There are necessary software programs for Berkeley students that are provided free by Residential Computing.

where are the student discount coupons?

On Apple, click "Education" for store and the find UC Berkeley under "Find your college or university." You then log on to the Apple website and discounts are automatically applied to all Apple products.

At Dell, Sony, and IBM, it is the same method, but their webpages are not as easy to navagate, especially IBM's; it is recommended that you call their number instead to get a notebook computer.

The Scholar's Workstation has a online website which you may access to see current deals. You will need your CalNET ID and password to access parts of the workstation's website.

These companies aforementioned have special education websites which are available to college students/admitted students, not just Cal students. I should also mention that not all stores provide education discounts.

checked out dell's website, can't find student discount anywhere.

i found it! go to dell.com, education, under higher education go to "Students, Faculty & Staff Personal Purchases," then "i dont have a member ID"

I was about to say that Dell's website, though not easier than Apple's website, is decent enough; it's on the first page when you go on www.dell.com.
