Berkeley or Cornell?

California resident.

any thoughts?

I would say it depends mostly on your major and financial situation.

It came down to those two for me and I went with Cornell.

Could you let us in on some of your reasons Macgruber?

Go to UCI.

Berkeley would be a lot cheaper.

this might be complete BS, but i heard that all ivy leagues provide full financial aid for students who come from households that earn less than $60,000 a year. is this true? i have no idea where i heard this but just making sure…

…and how is cornell’s undergrad business program in comparison to haas? in reputation and transfer rate? any advice would be appreciated thanks

I heard from a friend of mine at UPenn that all the Ivies looked down on Brown because they didn’t provide full aid to low-income families.

laker, are you sure you’re not referring to UCs? The Blue and Gold Plan (I think that’s the name?) provides free tuition and financial aid for students whose household incomes < 60,000. I haven’t heard anything about Ivy’s though.

Haas > AEM

Hands down. No questions asked.

In general, Berkeley > Cornell. When it comes to name recognition on a global scale; Berkeley is far more recognizable than Cornell.

Paul Merage

I don’t know about that… I think Cornell has more name recognition globally. It does out rank Berkeley slightly, not sure if that matters.

In the end, just go where you feel comfortable. Not much difference between the two.
Don’t forget though, Paul Merage= invention of hot pocket. You have to consider that.

Without a doubt, Berkeley has FAR more name recognition than Cornell on a global scale. Berkeley is a common word in many countries outside the US. Cornell? Not so much.

Also, USNWR are biased. Public schools are shoved way way down simply because they are “too big.” Or some other BS. Berkeley > Cornell. Honestly, setting all financial factors aside, would you really trade the best UC for the worst Ivy?

well, technically brown is the worst Ivy, but it makes me think nontheless.

Could you elaborate on how Brown is “technically” the worst? I’m just curious because I have heard it before.
