Hello - I am missing the Math 54 prerequisite (basic linear and differential equations) for the physics major at UCB. All other prerequisites and general breadth classes are completed (I’m IGETC certified). I was wondering if my admissions decision would be critically affected by this, considering I let UCB know that I’d take the course over the summer if accepted. Thanks!
From what Ive read that is a very big deal with berkeley, they clearly state that all pre reqs need to be done by spring.
Take the business major for example, abut 1600 people applied for transfer last year and out of them only 500 were deemed eligible and were actually looked at, meaning only 500 applicants actually showed planned completion of all pre reqs, out of them only 91 were offered admission. So you are doing yourself a great disservice by not finishing all your pre reqs, even if you let them know, think of all the people that WILL have it done, you are essentially knocking yourself out before the fight even begins.
Just squeeze it in man, or pick a different major.
I know my position is not ideal, disregarding, of course, the fact that you invoked an inappopriate example (business is highly impacted and physics is unimpacted). Thanks for the input anyway - Berkeley’s not, after all, the only school out there.
you’re welcome?

See details on preparation for this major below.” That implies that it is better to complete all of the requirements, but is not an automatic rejection if you do not.
^ I did read that before, but the following link says something different: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/preparation-paths/physics-majors/ucberkeley-physics.html
If that says “must”, then you must complete those courses before transfer. If you want to know more, you probably should ask the school and physics department directly.
@treehen5 he was just trying to help you with a major he was more familiar with. No need for sarcasm.
ucbalumnus is correct in their posts, but you can always call for reassurance.
I wasn’t being sarcastic. I apologize if that’s how it came off.
Sorry if I missed this in the thread but is there something preventing you from taking them in the spring? A lot of CCCs allow students to take linear/diffs classes in the same semester (as opposed to one being prereq for the next)
Also, as alumnus mentioned it is “suggested” not “required” however, with a school like Cal, I would take anything labeled as “suggested” and read it as “required”
Did you use any of the space in the additional comments of the application to explain why you’re not able to complete the prereqs in time?
TeamAmerica, classes are already under way, and taking linear and diffyq alongside my other courses would exceed my college’s unit cap. Furthermore, no colleges in my district offer the course over the summer. Really, though: I won’t be miserable if (and, as it appears, when) I’m rejected.
And do you guys think that my having a high gpa (4.0), good ecs, and good essays might make this admissible?
