Anyone here go through the PREP program? It looks interesting but I'm trying to see if it's worth it.

Last year’s schedule:

http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/engineering-diversity/caee/services/prep-program/PREP%20Schedule%20PDF%20as%20of%20080812.pdf

I think this year is a little different. I remember seeing the post card the class fulfills some requirement, cultural something. I think its three weeks and that they said they were looking for people that were leaders and looking to work with communities. The links you sent say its only for low income and under represented minorities. Maybe I was looking at a different program. I know we got two postcard.

Perhaps you mean the following:

[Engineering Scholars=Engaged Scholars (ES)2 ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/engineering-diversity/caee/services/engineering-scholars-engaged-scholars)

Thats probably it. I remember getting post cards for them.

Okay, you don’t need to be under-represented or a minority. I was (PREP 2011 Class!), but I know a few from the program who were well off and not under-represented racially speaking. It was 11 days I believe, and well worth it. You get fed a ton of information at once for 3 classes (for us it was Chem, Math, Physics, though I believe they got rid of Chem), and you take a “final” at the end, but its not really worth anything, just to your benefit. The greatest benefit are all the people you meet and become close with from the time spent studying, in class, and on trips. I hang out with my PREP friends almost every day now, and room with a fellow PREPpie. The experience is so worth it and it is less than 2 weeks of your summer, not too big of a commitment, plus you get to move in earlier than everyone else if you’re planning to live in the dorms after PREP. Huge advantage if you want to pick your closet, desk, and bed in a triple or wherever you live. You also get to know some of the head engineering advisors (like Dale) really well, and he’s a great contact to have in the future when you might need anything or he might have available engineering programs open that he’ll give to PREP students first. It’s so worth it. If you want more info or have any questions of me, feel free to PM me! Applying couldn’t hurt! :)

disney yay!!! I’m glad to hear that. Telling son to apply ASAP. He’s in lala land now. Last AP test was yesterday and prom is this saturday. So we’ll hope he applies soon.
