Hi everyone,
I'm a student at UCB at the end of my third year. I have recently decided that I would like to study medicine and that's why I'm a bit behind on my MCATS. I plan to take a year off school after I graduate, so my late MCATS should not be a problem. I was wondering if the more experienced members of this forum can look at my information and plans and give me comments.
So far, I have done a semester of research at a science lab and have a 3.54 GPA. This summer, I plan on volunteering in a hospital and taking MCAT classes. I will apply to medical school the year after I graduate. During that time, I hope to work at a biotech company or do research. I hope to get into a medical school in california, especially any of the UCs.
How does this plan look to you guys?
Also, I'm wondering if I should wait and take the computer based exam, since it looks a lot less stressful and I'm comfortable with computers. In that case, if I do bad on the last written test in August, I won't have to learn completely new strategies on the new computer based tests.
Thanks

Your GPA is slightly low, but still competitive. Do you have any clinical experience yet, or are you going to start volunteering in the summer? I would say it really depends on your MCAT. If you could pull off a high score, I think you could make it to a UC. Otherwise, I think you could also get into an out of state medical school. I think the fact that you went to Berkeley should compensate a little for your GPA...good luck! hope you make it!
