Berkeley Prereq Question Sociology... what to do?

The above is a stright cut and paste from Assist.org.

As you can see there are 3 prerequisites for the Sociology major. Basically, no community college offers SOCIOL 5, as you can see above Canada College does not offer it. One of the only ones in the bay area that offer it is Foothill College. Would it be beneficial for me to take the class there? Or should I just not worry about it because 99% of community colleges don't have it? I'd have to commute 30 min to Foothill... I will do it though if it means a better shot.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Don’t worry about Soc 5, Berkeley anticipates that most people do not complete that pre-req, I didn’t and neither did my husband & it didn’t hurt either of us for admissions

well considering foothill is like 15 minutes from canada you should probably just suck it up…

30 minute commute and you’re considering NOT doing it?

Wow, that shows a lot of ambition on your part.

Like everyone else says, it won’t hurt your chances. Though if it’s only 30 minutes, I don’t see why you shouldn’t, haha. Besides, you’ll save money if you take it at a CCC as opposed to a UC. I take the bus every day and it takes me about 1.5 hrs to get home. XD; Though yeah, if you have prior commitments… shrug

From yesterday…

Remmert, zip it plz.

To put your mind at ease, even though it’s already been said:

Suggested Sociology Courses for New Transfers

“Soc 5 - Many new transfers have not taken the prerequisite Sociology 5, since it is not offered at many community colleges. If you haven’t taken Soc 5 yet, it is highly recommended that you take it your first semester at CAL. It is best to enroll in it during Phase I, as it sometimes fills up in Phase II.”

Direct from Cal’s sociology site: [Department of Sociology, University of California, Berkeley](<a href=“Home | UC Berkeley Sociology Department”>Home | UC Berkeley Sociology Department)

They really don’t care. I got accepted from a CSU without taking that class, if that tells you anything.

I highly recommend that you take sociology 5 at de anza with Rich Wood. That class will really force you to think.
