Berkeley Psychology and/or Philosophy Majors

Hey guys! I've noticed that many of my fellow psych and phil majors are matriculating to UCLA. I'm wondering why this is? Don't get me wrong, I love UCLA and think it's a fantastic school! However, how come so many of you guys are picking UCLA over UCB? For me, UCB is where I've always wanted to go, and it's near to my home. I love it here, and I can't really see myself at UCLA.

Anyway, I'm also wondering: is anyone else out there a psych or phil major going to Berkeley in the fall? From what I remember, I've only seen "absurdmike" and myself.

Post questions, hit me up, or just chat in general here :p. We've waited quite a while to move onto a university. Congrats to everyone!

UC Berkeley Philosophy major here. i cant see myself going to UCLA either - partly because i was rejected, partly because i have been hearing UC BERKELEY!!! for the past 10 years of my life (Korean parents. Ugh).

i live near Berkeley too (well, i live in the Bay). still cant decide if i should move out to Berkeley, or just BART from Concord. living at home would be the smarter choice, but it would feel like community college all over again. not sure if i could handle that…

Wait, Did you say you’re going in the fall now emil? Cool beans. How’d you swing that one?

I’m going to Berkeley today to try and find a place to live because the summer session starts for me May 24th. I’ve never been there before and I am freaken excited.

Hey pyro, maybe I’ll see you in one of my classes. Actually there’s a really good chance as a few of the philosophy classes are already full. Philosophical methods, and Philosophy of Game theory are already full (and there might be one or two other ones as well), and these were two that I really wanted to take :(. Its a bummer that we register so late. But I think there are still some cool classes left :D.

im actually not too worried about the classes i want to take…i still need to take the prereqs!!!

my plan for year 1 is get the prereqs done and maybe complete a minor (that isnt loaded with prereqs). year 2 is all philosophy. i mean, 12 courses to complete the major? i got a lot of time to screw around =)

Emil you switched into fall? 0.0

Nah, if I can’t switch into fall (final verdict today btw), then I’ll be doing UCB Extension which allows CCC kids to concurrently enroll in classes at Berkeley. Apparently I can take up to 18 units according to my advisor. Thus, it’s basically like being a student without the actual, exclusive title of UCB student lol.

However, I e-mailed someone at UCB today about switching to fall. If it works out, I will do these things in the following order:

1) Jump for joy
2) Maybe do 1 more just for kicks
3) Log on here and tell you guys
4) Help out the others trying to switch into fall
5) Sleep. lol. I pulled another all-nighter :(.

I’ll be a psych major at Cal. That psych department is amazing!!

Go psycho bears! lol!

@ pyro,

You want to take 9 philosophy courses in two semesters!!! Holy smokes. Good luck with that : ). I admire people that can do that sort of thing, but I can’t. Or if I could, I know I wouldn’t enjoy myself at all.

i’m a polisci major, planning on doubling in psych. I have all the psych pre reqs done and everything.
