I have seen posts on CC asking questions about this program but have not seen posts talking about students with actual experience in the program.
I know this is a very selective program (odds accepted I know are already nil most likely) but am wondering if my kid should apply or do the operations research/IE option. We are instate.
Any other programs like this or the Jerome Fisher school at Penn that we should consider?
I would like targets- ACT 35, UW 3.96, all rigorous courses and ECs.
Programs like MET, and UCs in general, are looking for more than just rigorous courses and GPA (UCs are test blind). The first sentence on the MET admissions page states, “You’re focused and self-motivated, with a passion for finding and solving big problems. Maybe you’ve launched a mobile app, or started your own business. You’re not afraid to experiment with new ideas.” Throughout the website, they state that they are looking for students who are both innovators as well as entrepreneurs.
We had a student from our tippy top high school get accepted into MET. He had an unweighted GPA of 4.0 but took the minimum number of honors/AP courses (8 semesters). Outside of school, he was running a business for a product he developed. We also know a student who started in Rausser and was accepted into Haas while at Berkeley. He ended up completing a dual degree in environmental science and business.
