how come berkeley chooses their applicatoins based on departments (social science, physical science, etc.) as opposed to a school like ucla who makes their decision based on a specific major? this means the psychology, sociology, political science, etc. majors are competing against each other?

???????????
No idea what you are talking about....

bearclaw....unlike UCLA, berkeley doesn't admit people based on a specific major, they do it by department.

so you state your intended major, but you will be compared to applicants in your department that you apply to...here take a look at this:

as you can see theres letters and science, haas school of business, chemistry, natural resources, etc etc

lets say your major is Economics..then you apply to the letters and science department and I'm pretty sure you are compared to everyone who applies to L&S in the category of social sciences..

well thats the general idea. good luck

"bearclaw....unlike UCLA, berkeley doesn't admit people based on a specific major, they do it by department."

You mean college...?

yea sorry...wrong word...college (thanks for correction)

Does the College of L&S accept by department...

yeah (pretty sure)

yeah that's what i meant. so pyschology majors are competing against sociology majors right?

yea bearclaw...

i'm pretty sure
