"UCLA and Berkeley dont cap GPAs. There are usually 10 applicants to Berkeley with perfect 5.00 GPA's (every single class is an AP) and 1600's."

by Regent's policy, all UC's cap the bonus points for honors/ap in the gpa calc to 8 semesters or 4 year-long a-g classes. Thus, the only way someone could apply with a "UC gpa" of 5.0 would be if they only took TWO academic classes during soph and jr years, all of which were UC-approved honors/ap. While I guess it's theoretically possible, it would look like an extremely light load, and would not likely impress in the strength-of-schedule comparison.

To earn a UC 4.5 gpa, a kid would take only 4 classes each year.

That is what I was trying to allude to. It being impossible if you actually have a decent load

uc gpa is this: they dont cap gpas although they say they do (inside information) also they take ur 10th and 11th grade grades. minuses and plusses don't affect it (so a- = a = a+). most honors classes don't count, although if youre in one of the top schools in the state or nation a few will. all ap's usually count. honors and aps that count, add an extra 1.0 to your gpa per semester.
