Hey everyone. I'm taking classes this summer at Berkeley and am looking for a roommate. I started a thread like this before and it basically turned into a coop thread. Which is fine, but I can't be in a coop because i won't be taking enough units (if i understand it correctly).

does anyone want to look for housing for the berkeley summer session with me? I've found one place that has double rooms for 330 each, but you need to come with a roommate, and i don't know anyone at Berkeley. I haven't seen it yet though as i Live kinda far away. I'm thinken of going up there next weekend to look for a place to live

Basically my three requirements for housing are:

Cheap- i can pay 400 a month tops
Close to campus- it's sucky having to commute to campus
Sleep- I need my sleep to be able to do school properly, so people would have to respect each others sleep to the maximum.

I'm fine with being either clean, or not as clean (as long as the bathroom is clean and the kitchen is functionable); i've been both.

Sometimes it's helpful to find a place with someone else, as there are studios and stuff that are around 750-800.

Anyway, anyone interested?

Here's my post on craigslist for a bit more info about me UCB male student starting in May

no pic? you have to put a pic on the craigslist ad…otherwise that is creepy.

lol

not just pics of how you look but like you are a good and wholesome person.

ah… but there are links to videos of me juggling. How much more wholesome can I be? :D

but if you think the picture would help, i’ll totally put a picture on the ad.

yeah like you next to a bookcase or something.
with plants nearby.
and if you play an instrument put that there too.

those are roommate shots.

damnnnn. nice juggling…and funny ad :D

welcome to Cal!

Thanks three times anonymouserename : )

It really does help, when I was trying to get rid of my room in tahoe, I put up an add and got almost nothing and then I added my picture and I got like 40 calls…and I was the one moving out so I’m not sure why that helped but it did.

huh, thats weird corinnejay. I guess it makes the ad seem less anonymous, and more human.
Thanks. I’ll definitely do that.

OK. Now I have a picture posted. It took me forever to figure out how to get the picture to be big enough.

omg!!! who is that cute little angel???
awww he is reading a book like you are.

very well done, you look studious and like a mentor. that lil boy is just too cute…look at his scarf!!! omg

@ jane, Hehe. That’s my sisters 2 year old boy. Twas christmas time and i don’t have any heating in my room, so my sister put the scarf on him.

The picture definitely helped. Thanks for the advice :D

So are you saying we can’t get dorm housing if we do summer at Cal? You are a spring admit, right dude? I am planning on going to Cal in the summer too, but I assumed that I’d just get dorm housing? oui? no?

You can live in the dorms for the summer (at least I’m pretty sure). They are just much more expensive than I want to pay.

No, i’m not a spring admit. I’m admitted for the fall.

@absurdmike Interesting idea - Berkeley estimates on my financial aid page that I will need $12,826.00 to live. What do you think they are including in that figure? How much are the dorms? Paying $400 for a room for 9 months comes out to $3,600. Where is the other $9,226? Transportation and food? I’m starting to hope that maybe I won’t need as much money as Berkeley thinks I will :)

If you get the cheapest dorm possible, which is a triple, and you want to stay for both 6- week sessions (which i do) its 3464 dollars. ( [UC Berkeley Conference Services](http://conferenceservices.berkeley.edu/summersess_index.html) ). Now I understand that if you listed “on campus housing” on your fafsa, that they offer you more money because they figure you will be spending more, but I highly doubt that they will offer enough money to make dorms worth it for me.

In contrast, I have found a couple SINGLE rooms for 400 a month. That’s 1200 for the summer instead of 3464.

Is that 12,826 for just housing???
My housing says $7,784.00. Maybe its because I said that I was going to live off campus and you said that you are going to live on campus?

But even $7,784.00 is way too high in my opinion. I have confidence that I can get a place for 400. And lets say I’m there for 9 months (i’m not actually sure how long the two semesters together are), that comes out to $3,600 :D. Bam!! Thats 4,000 dollars saved :)
