Yo guys, I'm planning on going to Berkeley, but one of the issues I have, I know it sounds stupid, but its the number of asians. I mean I am brown, from India originally, but American at heart, cause ive lived here all my life. Like I have lots of asian (when I say asian, I mean oriental) friends and its really cool to hang out with them. I mean its like I have 2/3 brown friends and 1/3 asian. It's not that I dont like other races, it just happens this way. And its not like my brown friends are really that indian, like they are pretty white washed. But thats the thing that I like, like whenever I'm alone with all my asian friends they have a lot of like "asian pride" or whatever and they start singing some asian song or talk in mandarin or something. I feel out of place when this happens. Are there really that many asians, and do they completely overshadow the brown population? I just don't want to end up spending all my time with ppl who I like, but who I feel sometimes out of place with because of their ethnicity. I like white washed ppl i guess...but i also like very intellectual ppl, so i dont know, do you think this will be a problem? thanks guys

Heh whitewashed brown. I guess I could fall under that. Or atleast get close to it I hope.

I heard that Berkeley is very "groupie". On the last visit I went to Cal, I was being ridiculed by a pack of girls sitting on the steps in front of the Cal Store. However, to me, Cal didn't seem like a lot of people chose to migrate in packs. But I did see a lot of Asians. But then you have Asians like me who cannot speak the language whatsoever, overshadow every single Asian male in my school (except my boyfriend), and who came from a school that was 99% white. Maybe you'll meet people like that? I mean, every school isn't uniformly the same and you're most likely to fit in somewhere.

Be happy with wherever you choose to go. :)

go whitewashed brown people!!!

You'll be able to find whoever you want here, you'll just have to know where to look. Statistically, it's likely you'll be living near mostly white and asians (if you go for the average residence hall), but you can choose where to spend your time, and with whom. Cal is obviously fairly Asian, and a large part of that is Chinese, but there are significant chunks of Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other groups here. Do Asians completely overshadow the Brown population? I don't think so, but others might disagree.

all my friends are white, i have no asian friends, they're all gone :(

now that i'm in berkeley..... :D ASIAN PARTY! jk! all ethnicities invited!

well if you're looking for white people/whitewashed people i'd recommend the greek system to you....

it's only a problem if you make it a problem

You can also join clubs like Indian Students' Association where you can meet other brown people. But yeah, they can be found everywhere.

You're right. Your issue does sound really stupid.

Berkeley is so ethnically diverse. Just relax and have a good time.

no need to attack anyone.

OP sed himself that he knows we'll think he's stupid

y do u want to hang with exculsively white washed indians? they'll be hanging w/ whites so y wont u? ur whole point is either stereotypical or nonsensical

if it just happened that u have friends already, w.e races, then it'll just happened that u'll have friends in other places too

if u for some reason all of a sudden think u r hanging out w/ the wrong group of ppl, ur whole life has got to be messed up already

"ITS NOT SO MUCH THAT I DONT LIKE ASIAN PEOPLE, ITS MORE THAT WHEN THEY OUTNUMBER "WHITEWASHED BROWN" PEOPLE, I GET SCARED, LOL!!!!1111111evelen"

you dont have the right attitude for berkeley. here, try http://www.bju.edu/ you dont even need SAT scores!!!1111111eleven

I don't think BJU will like browns. Some people consider us heathens after all..

well, they love 'converts', and it sounds like Pulkit has seen the light and 'whitewashed' himself. the question is, is he ready to take up the burden?
