Berkeley Transfer Admit Day

^^^Maybe you’d like UCSC? Santa Cruz is a nice area.

mrpotato…r u sure ur talking about Berkeley campus?? i agree that the area around it is not up to par, but the campus itself is far from ugly, but i guess ur entitled to your opinion…what part of campus did u visit? North (By Wellman Hall where the creek forks off), South by Sproul Plaza? If u r just talking about Sproul Plaza then that is a tiny part of the campus compared to how huge that campus is

hmm, I guess by Sproul Plaza. that’s weird though, cause thats what I thought too but like I’m pretty sure we circled the entire campus?

like we went to boalt school of law, and haas school of business, where are they???

i missed the whole transfer day =( it was sad that they didnt have any tour guides

that’s like a quarter of our campus, to circle the entire campus you would have to go way down past Haas Pavillion to the end of Bancroft then around past the main entrance, than up Haste street & even if you did that you would miss a lot of the interior creeks and bridges on the North side, plus there is Strawberry Canyon & the Botanical Gardens.

If you do decide to go to Cal, then Calso will have a tour but to get a really good idea of the campus, I would pick up a free campus map in the transfer center & explore the campus completely if u get a chance

yeah i think we did circle the entire campus, then hmmm. in our car though.

too bad i live all the way in orange county =( and we just flew home

berkeley was my dream school but after seeing it today i’m just ehhhh.

i had the most amazing time in berkeley today. the weather was so nice and warm, but with the occasional soft breeze to cool us down. perfect. i took a mini tour of the campus again because everything was just so vibrant and lively. this coming week is finals so i was definitely very surprised to see many people soaking up the sun on campus.

the food is great. the shopping is great. there’s just so much to do here! the landscape and old buildings have so much character. majestic. this is nothing like ucla. while ucla does have a beautiful campus with many brick buildings, i honestly think it’s a bit manicured and slightly superficial. i also don’t understand why so many people think berkeley students are ‘ugly.’ maybe it’s the fact that i find style and intelligence attractive, but i definitely saw some good looking people there. and i know some people are “worried” about the asian community takeover, but really, probably every UC campus has at least a 30% population of asians. we’re just smart ;)

berkeley is definitely my dream school. i’m only afraid of the competition, but that’s just an insecurity of mine. i haven’t made my decision, but i am definitely in favor of berkeley over ucla right now. the only thing holding me back is my scholarship at ucla.

:( i went all the way to berkeley from los angeles the past weekend and i ended up going to the reception late (my stupid bf wouldnt leave our freakin hotel rom, nice room though) i missed the speakers and everything! i didn’t get a folder either :frowning:
berkeley was ok, i really don’t like how parts of the school are dispersed throughout the city. it’s kind of weird and would probably be inconvenient too
it was really interesting though, i think it would be a fun and exciting place to live but i don’t think i’m ready for that type of lifestyle yet
oh- and the night before, there was berkeley’s fashion magazine launch party, i went and i didn’t like it at all :frowning: they had a cool light fixture though, it was made of blue books haha
overall my experience in norcal was really weird.

I am the 15 year old transfer student and I will not appreciate anyone setting next to me just to copy notes.

hahaha, rocklee, that was pretty hilarious.

russiangirl, yeah!!! i remember you! you went to san jose city/foothill, one of those right?

tracie, yeah he tried to get a poster but they were like - “oh, he needs to fill out a survey in order to get it.” my dad took it anyways… lol

here is my two cents on berkeley.

 • berkeley is a somewhat acquired attraction just like booze is. at first it might seem pretty dull and ugly, but once you go there a lot, you’ll fall for it. i used to share the same mentality - “the campus is ugly.” but after yesterday’s tour with the nice weather, i realized the campus has it’s own vibrant culture.

did any of you walk through memorial glade? it was super nice. what about going up sutter tower and seeing berkeley from there? again, it was super nice. berkeley was beautiful yesterday and it finally made me realize what people have been talking about this entire time.

and yes, the campus is pretty divided but if you think about it, everything a mile radius from the campus is pretty much part of the campus. and the ton of good food - you cant go wrong.

the speakers were great. one of them made a very inspiring speech of not succumbing to the fear of going to berkeley. you gotta stand up and fight, yo (or in her speech - you gotta keep exercising despite the burn!)

as for the social environment of cal, from what it seems like - it’s what you make out of it. there is always something to do at cal, you just got to find that click that you like. do some research and im sure you’ll find one.

this in no way means i am sold on berkeley yet. im gonna visit UCLA before i make my final decision…something everyone ought to do before making this crazy hard decision.

luvtoolearn, haha, I was not serious about the folder, I just like free stuff with Cal and UCLA name on it)) I also had a nice present from Berkeley - a free citation ticket for $75 on my car, because I parked it without a campus permit
chibi_loopi, I am from West Valley community college, but I am sure we saw each other! My mom took a poster before they told us to fill out a survey, so we just slowly walked away lol Is anyone going to May 16 UCLA Transfer Admit Day? How can we register for it, because for some reason I did not get the email? I am going to UCLA on the 15-16th and then Berkeley again on the 17th (we were exhausted, so we went home).
