I was originally going to major in bioengineering (at most schools) until accepted to Wharton. Since then I am considering Business/Econ to be my first choice and biology/bme as a minor or perhaps dual.

Berkeley would cost around $5k a year, versus 10x that at penn- $40k a year for me… does anyone have insight or suggestions??

i’ve been having headaches deciding whether to ‘invest’ the $160k for a better future or go somewhere for almost free (where i would take bio+business as well). An advisor suggested that going to penn puts you to a great advantage over public schools- and that students at undergrad are shoe-in’s for MBA program, is this true?

thank you!

how can berkeley be $5000?

after financial aid and scholarships
i don't know the actual amount but it will be between $5,000-$10,000 /yr

u will get $ from penn if u apply. key thing is wharton ug plus a dual is worth 300$. since ug at whatron would mean you need not go for MBA any more. summer interships can create wonderful things for you. ucb good if you want to major in eng.

Well Penn/Wharton's undergrad experience is definitely better than Berkeley's.

If money isn't a grave concern, Wharton is the way to go.

Wharton will get you respect on both coasts when you depart, Berkeley will be respected on the West Coast, probably only fine on the East Coast.

Berkeley and Wharton? Wharton. Hands down.

But I'm biased. It depends what matters to you. If you love Cali to death, then by all means... go with the cheaper option. I'm sure you'll get a great education there.

All I know is that there are VERY few people who end up regretting wharton. The only person I know who actually hates being in wharton is an asian girl from florida who is a stereotypical sorority girl. She has no friends in wharton and would rather do her dance routines on her boyfriend than work. Wait. I like girls like that.

Basically she cares far more about her social life than her academic one. There's nothing wrong with that, but she'd be better off in the college. That's all.

ok.. i guess i can be a study freak if need be
thanks a bunch for the feedback so far

but right now im intimidated by the competition.. is it possible to maintain a 3.4-3.6 GPA there despite the killer curves withOUT being a natural genius?

Yes. It's tough, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. There's more to life than grades. Try networking a little or having a social life. It pays.

You didn't get any aid? That's hard to believe. Penn is usually very generous with aid.

But anyways, Wharton hands down. My friend was actually in the same exact situation as you a couple years ago and he chose Wharton. He absolutely loves everything about Penn, even though he never even visited before. He was also from Cali and could've attended Berkeley for very cheap.

As for college experience, you should definitely come over to the east coast. Most of your high school friends are probably going to Berkeley and you probably live relatively close. And you can't get any more prestigious than Wharton :]

wow.. your simply psychic about the "most of your friends are probably going to berkeley"

is it difficult for me to dual major wharton + eng/bio?

Besides, isn't Berkeley/Haas only a two-year school?

haas is upper division (juniors+seniors). and i'm pretty sure you can double major with the college of arts and sciences or at least minor in one of those.
