Hi!

So I was admitted to both Berkeley (L&S) and Michigan (LSA Honors), and I cannot decide which is better. I would major in Cognitive Science with a minor in Political Science, and I plan on going to law school. At Michigan, I would be in the Residential College. I'm very studious, but I also like to have fun.

Please offer some opinions. Thanks!

These schools are very similar in terms of the academic programs you’ll be majoring.
Berkeley doesn’t have an honors program - they say everyone is honors, though there are a few honors math classes.

I would definitely choose based on the cost first. Are the out-of-pocket differences significant? If so, choose the cheaper option and save the money for law school.

If costs are same, I’d look at campus environment. Both are urban college towns. Cal has convenient access to San Francisco and airports via public transportation. Cal will obviously be a lot milder during the winter.

Michigan honors may present some benefits that Cal wouldn’t such as smaller classes and priority registration.

Those are the factors I would consider. Congrats on your acceptances.

Best of luck!

Michigan is a lot more fun imo than Berkeley is. It just depends what you would like.

I had the same choice… visited Berkeley, tough it was cool. Visited Michigan… knew it was my school. Berkeley does seem better academically (somewhat).
