I have decided that I wish to attend either of these universities for pre-med. However, I have heard that berkeley is not a good place to do pre-med because of grade deflation as well as a cut-throat and I have heard the same things for MIT. Please can anyone in this forum give me an honest answer as to which university is better for pre-med. I really love Berkeley and MIT and I also wish to pursue a career in becoming a doctor which is like my life long dream. Thanks!

Have you been accepted into these schools already?

Yep and I also Got accepted to UCLA as well.

If you’ve been accepted to both these schools, then shouldn’t you have already decided where you’re going?

I’m going to be a junior premed at Berkeley this fall and let me tell you nice and simply that your ambition to go to medical school should not influence which college you want to attend. From my experience so far, science classes at a college level is unlike anything you’ve seen in high school, so to do well in them and stand out above others, you will need a college environment that’s comfortable. Whatever college you end up choosing, just make absolutely sure that you maintain a high gpa. Berkeley maybe better than MIT in its course selection and abundance of majors/minors not heavily impacted by premeds (i.e. humanities). But if you end up choosing MIT then go to that school, study hard, and get into med school anyways. Just out of curiosity, what’s your home state?

My home state is california and I have not decided on what college to go to yet but I did apply to as many places as I could and these are all the acceptance letters I got.

how could you not have decided by now? the deadline for me was like may 1st or something like that to send a deposit in

He’s clearly just living his fantasy life via college confidential.

I guarantee you MIT and Berkeley are both filled. He asked the same question except with Harvard the other day.

Quit being so hypothetical about things. If you’re afraid of competition, good luck being a pre-med.

I did not mean to anger anyone. I just want to know which college is right for pre-med.
THAT’s IT. And I want to know why that college is better than the other one.

Then why not just ask? There is no super secret information that we hide unless students say they got in.

None of them are really going to give you an edge. All of them are top schools with top programs and top students. Go where you liked the most when you tour.
