Hi guys!
I recently got accepted into Berkeley and NYU’s classes of 2019.
I was really set on attending Berkeley; however, the finaid came out.
For NYU, I received a $57,000 scholarship, allowing me to only pay $16,000 per year in contrast to the original $71,000.
For Berkeley, I would have to pay $34,000 a year for tuition.
Is Berkeley worth double the tuition of NYU’s?
Which one would you guys rather go to?
Your decision depends on a lot of other things. What’s your major? Have you visited both schools? Which one could you see yourself growing not only academically, but also as a person?
Money is huge though. Have you talked to your parents?
That is where things get more difficult, I am an undecided major. But interested in economics and possibly premed.
I have visited nyu but not berkeley, and I am not able to visit berkeley before I have to make the decision.
However, I feel like NYU will have many more opportunities in the future, connection wise intern wise and future wise.
My parents want me to go wherever I want to, which makes it all the more confusing!

Berkeley is pretty much top-ranked in all departments. In my experience, many pre-meds find it difficult to maintain high grades due to grade deflation. With this said, every top university (like NYU) will be academically rigorous. Cal has many, many career fairs and company info sessions to get yourself out there.
But if you feel that way about NYU, then by all means follow your heart-- it’s your choice.
Haha, yeah, I was deciding between NYU, a couple UC’s, and Berkeley myself. My parents told me that they just wanted me to be happy and to commit to wherever I wanted.
Good luck!
