BERKELEY vs. RPI/AMC 7 year med program

I was accepted to Berkeley regular undergrad and RPI/Albany Medical College 7 year med program and cannot decide on which one to pick. I was wondering if anyone could give input as to what my decision should be.

thanks

RPI/AMC. Berkeley is really competitive, and you might not even make it into AMC from there. Plus its 7 years and a great med school. Talk to gangsta for more info. Great program. good job.

Hey, I'm sorta in the same boat. I think a lot of us are. What I'm doing it's just listing out the pros and cons of each program/college, and seeing the reg. route(that is, what I would do had I not gotten into ANY ba/md programs), and whether its worth it. It's a hard decision for me, but if you gain any more insight, post it here....

similar question: berkeley vs. umkc

Berkeley is huge and full of premeds. Its a breeding ground for competition. Like any other undergard, you're going to have to go through MCATs, getting the grades in competitive classes with curves, get recommendations from profs who have hundreds of students, do volunteering/research, etc. If you're debating skipping out on a program, the only acceptable schools are Harvard, Yale, Princeton. Thats when the debate comes down. For any other undergrad, it's not really worth it. Harvard may or may not be, thats the tough call.

gangsta said: "If you're debating skipping out on a program, the only acceptable schools are Harvard, Yale, Princeton."

I strongly disagree. I learned today that the daughter of a family friend, who graduated from Yale with honors, could not get into medical school in the States, and will now pursue medicine in Granada. There is absolutely NO GUARANTEE, no matter what school one goes to, of getting into medical school. There are not enough seats for all the eligible students. I say to all those debating between a reputable combined medical program and a prestigious undergraduate college, take the BA/MD program.

I didn't say that you cannot turn down HYP, just said that the debate comes in then. When you can get into those type of prestigious institutions, you might want to take a look at yourself and see if you want to go through the hell of applying to med. school or if you want to take it easy. But its a tough call. There are many people Doc2be that get in and that don't get in from every undergrad. The debate is personal and you have to decide. Sometimes its better to take the ba/md, but some people who get in, they're not really sure they want to do it, and HYP is much better then.
