Berkeley vs. UCLA vs. USC vs. NYU

I did not get into any of the Ivy League schools.

I was waitlisted by Stanford and Brown.

Should I choose UC Berkeley, USC, UCLA, or NYU for now?

I plan on majoring in History, Economics, or Pre Law on my 2nd year. For now, I will be majoring undecided on my first year.

Also, I plan on transferring to an Ivy League university or another university after my 1st or 2nd year.

Go to Berkeley. Don't plan on transferring, plan on doing well at Berkeley and taking advantage of all it has to offer.

if you are just gonna transfer it seems stupid to go to a private school. also from the people i've talked to pre-law is basically a joke major, law schools dont want to see it.

Well, I really wanted to attend an Ivy League university because their graduate schools are very good.

Also, I've always wanted to attend one ever since I was 6. My uncle attended Harvard and Princeton.

Go to Berkeley and do well you can go to grad school at an Ivy.

Any other suggestions?

Can anybody give me more input?

Er, if their grad schools are very good, why not go to them for grad school? I know it's a crazy idea, but if you're going for undergrad now, you might want to look at undergrad.

And that logic doesn't really work. Berkeley is pretty much the undisputed best school for grad. I would say go to Berkeley and forget about the Ivy League until grad school.

You've given us nothing to go on, other than what you want to study. What do you like, would you rather be in NYC, etc.?

Do you know that Harvard for one says it will take no transfer students for a few years?

I think you should cool off for awhile. You didn't get into any of the schools you really wanted to be at that you applied to -- no doubt you are a great applicant given where you did get in/waitlisted -- but what makes you think you'll get into one of them as a transfer?

I think you should pick one of these schools you listed that you like best and brace yourself for the fact that you'll be there for awhile. On your list, I'd say Berkeley is the best, but if money is no object, go to NYU. Get to another coast, experience NYC, get out of dodge, get some experience under your belt, do some good internships. Forget a pre-law focus. Study economics if you want to go to law school -- or double major with history.

Er... if you have your heart set on Princeton, you will have to wait till graduate school.

Princeton doesn't have a law school.

Go where you can get a good GPA. Probably UCLA.

Princeton doesn't accept transfer either...

Go visit the schools where you were accepted, and then make up your mind. Talk to different people on campus, check out the housing situation, and the surrounding area to get a feel as to where you will best fit in. Don't rush yourself.
