And I didn't mean for that to sound mean - just wanted to get the point across that it's highly improbable that you're trying to rub your academic ability in others' faces, especially since you didn't even post your stats on here.

berkeley is more on the map than ucla outside of california, let alone internationally.

Please reread what I said. I said that the gap doesn't magically increase as you leave California. I never said that it wasn't there. Big difference.

Personally, I'd pick Berkeley over LA in a heartbeat because I love economics and Cal is a better school for that area. Just by looking at the rankings, Berkeley's econ research department consistently lands higher than UCLA's, in both undergrad and graduate studies. This isn't to say UCLA's econ department sucks-- it's actually very good and really close to being on par with Berkeley's.

This is true. But I'll let you in on a little secret: you don't know if you love economics until you major in it. Trust me.

Oh, and the difference to an undergrad? Zero.

yea economics is sorta fun on a very very basic level....but since even the basic level was somewhat dull..i knew i had to change my major to include less economics lol

"Oh, and the difference to an undergrad? Zero."

Ari, are you saying that school's rank for a postgrad program (like let's say Berkeley's History program), would also indicate how good their undergrad program is?

cal >>> ucla

oh and you don't get tased at cal

lol

seriously.

i rather go to davis than ucla...shivers in disgust i hate la

.....

moooooooo

.....

moooooooo

aw how cute there are two of them (not intended)

lol I'd pick UCI over UCLA anyday

seriously? what is uci so good about? i've been there are it seems nice, but i don't think it's spectacular.
what major is uci good for anyway?

i dunno, but i do know i hate la

irvine is so homogenious it makes me barf....

i'd choose ucla over irvine only cuz socal sucks equal butt across socal...so might as well go for prestige lol

Not much, really. Dartmouth, Brown, Pomona, and many other schools lack the graduate program quality that Cal and UCLA have, yet I'd very confidently say that they offer comparable if not better undergrad programs.

Let the horse rest in peace. It's been beaten to a pulp. A not funny pulp.

At least in SoCal we know how to avoid run-on sentences. ;)

At least in NorCal we know that the internet is the one place to be informal, casual, and grammatically incorrect = )

lol "A not funny pump'

yes, the engilsh is a lot better in socal, indeed.

Hey Dude,

About job fair at the universites, most recuriters are the same in UCLA and Berkeley. You can make comparison now by visiting the career center web site at UCLA and UCB.

Now, it is my experience. I am living in SF now and is working in San Ramon. This is a good paying job starting with 60K+ 9 months ago and i already got a couple thousand dollars raise two months ago. I got my first job at LA right after my graduation from UCLA with a fairly good pay for 50K a year.

However, if you ask me to choose again, i will stay at LA coz the weather is so bad here. It is chilly and the beach here are not for u to swim throughout the entire year!!!! I used to play tennis twice a week. At LA, most tennis courts open until 10p.m. at night (which means that the light at the courts turn off at 10p.m.). In bay area, there is no light at most of the tennis courts because no one wants to play "chilly" tennis; the wind keeps blowing on your face and the balls fly to all different directions. Also, bay area is small and there are not that many entertainment for young adults compare to LA, which is the 2nd biggest city in the country. When I was in LA, i brought my friend to Disney, Berry farm, 6th flag, Santa monica.... In Bay area, do u want to visit the same Golden gate bridge and the same China town over and over again? Since i don't like going to clubs much, I am petty bored in SF. Besides, restaurants open until 3 or 4 a.m. in LA (San Gabriel or Montery Park), but in SF, 9p.m. seems to be late at night..... It is more like a retirement community for me in Bay Area although the work pace can be extremely fast. Overall, I don't like Bay Area very much.

Besides that, you don't really need to worry about your jobs IF you have good grades from either Cal or UCLA, good personal attitude, and a clear personal goal. With all the 3 listed criteria, you can go to the grad school that u want to or get into the big company you like. I kind of disagree with someone who says that recuriters consider Cal State graduates the same as UCLA or Cal. Sorry, a lot of the recuriters from the IT industries just don't consider applicants from State. The big wireless infrastructuring company that i got into at San Jose (and i did not they their offer eventually) are filled with graduates from UCB and Stanford. The 1st question that i got asked from the fellows working there (not from the interviewers coz they have my resume already) was "You from Cal?" ... i proudly responsed that i am a Bruin!!! Some states like Cal Poly are special and i like my fellows from there alot.

Overall, i like south cal more. UCB is more prestigious but it is your choice depending on what kind of environment you want. AND do you have an idea on what will be your major GPA from either UCLA or Cal when u graduate... that is more of my concern because you won't get out of either school without putting your effort.

UCLA is more popular than Berkeley in Asia, ESPECIALLY IN ASIA. Of course, for researchers and professors, i expect them to know Berkeley more. I have talk to folks in Microsoft China, they have never heard of Berkeley, but they know UCLA. Why??? because UCLA is doing good marketing by opening some UCLAStores globally around the world. 5 of them are in China now. :)

Fine we can drop the tasing stuff and all and start up with this
