Hey guys,
I was committed to UT for Computer Science for the fall, but I’ve just been informed that I’ve been accepted to the College of Letters and Sciences at UC Berkeley for Computer Science.
Which school do you recommend I go to?
I’m in-state for UT, so the tuition would be far cheaper, but money isn’t an issue even if I do go to Berkeley.
Only this part is correct: “… accepted to the College of Letters and Sciences at UC Berkeley.”
You are accepted undeclared, and still have to petition to CS.
I’d stay at UT.
If you are admitted to UT Austin into the CS major as a Texas resident, it is hard to see how paying a lot more when getting into the CS major is not assured makes any sense (L&S CS requires a 3.30 in the prerequisites to declare the major, due to capacity limitations).
He said money isn’t an issue here, so don’t push it. I, too, was paying an OOS rate as a preHaas and I never complained about it. It’s a matter of whether you can afford it or not. I chose Berkeley over a couple of Ivies and another couple of top 20 schools (Rice being one of the two) because of the “wow” factor, the experience of living in California and fit. And if I had to make the same choices again, I would still pick Berkeley, despite being the most expensive school it was for me.
