Berkeley waitlist

I also just called the Berkeley admin office and it is NOT open due to reduced hours policy.

I third the phone call attempt. They’re not in the office.

Reminder to all: tomorrow is April Fool’s Day. I hope no one will post any misleading information. This has already been stressful enough for the applicants.

So the 4000 waitlisted figure is false ?

@dazzed I’m not going to believe it until I hear it or see it for myself

The only “official” word I have found so far is this twitter post from this morning:

@CalAdmissions Hi, can you please tell us how many people are put into waitlist? Thank you!

UCBerkeleyAdmissions ‏@CalAdmissions 4h
that information isn’t available at the moment. When the info is released, we will post it on our feed. Thanks!

@CalMom1988 i called at 9:15 AM right when i got off 2nd period.

the phone number is (510) 642 - 3175. if you still don’t believe me i can send you a screenshot of my call log - they said 4000 waitlisted, and admission would be random

I doubt wait list admission will be random, if the wait list is used. Division (and major in CoE) will likely be considered, based on which division has a yield deficit. Indeed, if there is an overall yield deficit, but (for example), the CoE had the expected yield or higher (meaning that the CoE is “full”), then it seems unlikely that any CoE applicant on the wait list will be admitted.

^yeah that’s what I was thinking. of course they would say “random” as to not get anybody’s hopes up

Maybe they meant random by college i.e. if there are x openings in L&S, those will be filled by lottery from the L&S applicants who opted in to the waitlist. The notification my daughter received said that the waitlist was for Fall 2014 (how that relates to Spring admits is an entirely different can of worms), the waitlist would not be ranked, and the waitlistees would be considered as a group, whatever than means.

called and was told they waitlisted approximately 3300 applicants this year.

I just called as well, they said a couple thousand and that selection process will be completely random. Good luck to everyone!

Have they even confirmed that any students will be taken off the waitlist this year ?

What number do you call them at o.O? Their undergraduate admissions office is closed the whole day.

Would this mean an appeal from the wait-list would be meaningless due to the lottery nature of admissions?

But how many of the 4000 actually accepted the waitlist offer :frowning:

I’d called as well and admission office was closed so not sure if “4000 waitlist” is a legit information. Please share your conversation with admission office to this thread tomorrow.

@dkdesai i called earlier and the admissions officer told me that they waitlisted approxiamtely 3300 applicants. of course not everyone accepts a waitlist position so the amount of those who chose to remain on the waitlist is less but it looks like it will be tough to get off of the waitlist

Does anyone know/have any speculations as to why so many people were waitlisted this year compared to all the other years?

Does this mean that the Berkeley waitlist is as hopeless as the Washu one? ;-;
