Berkeley?

Does anyone know the average stats of a CCC student entering berkeley? I'm thinking about a mass communications major, anyone got any ideas on how competitive that major would be? also, anyone have links to sites that would have entering GPA's for all berkeley majors? thankss

hi guitarshark

from the 2004 stats ( i dont think 2005 are out yet) the average range is 3.5-3.91.

i honestly dont think that mass communication is an impacted major there. i've read the berkeley stats enough, and i dont recall seeing communications as one of the impacted majors.

if you're interested, here were mine:

GPA: 4.0 at the time of application, 3.98 after i finished my requirements

School Load: 12-15 units a semester avg

employment: 2 jobs: Teacher's assistant for a high school program during the week, cashier during the weekend. avg: 20-25 hours a week, for 3 years

clubs: founder of the Women Union, VP of Phi Theta Kappa, psychology club, bsu and SFJ

community service: miscellaneous Cancer Causes (all done under PHi theta kappa) and social change coach for a non profit organization (one year at about 3 hours each week, both)

withdrawals: 5

essay topics: personal statement: (600 words) the first even i put together with the Women Union. it was basically a recount of that day and how hard it was for me to be honest with myself and be open about going through child abuse and eating disorders and how i overcame the psychological affects of them. the main point of the essay was that by facing what i've been trying to repress, i grew a lot more and renewed my energy to work with whatever life threw at me ("i walked away, no longer the woman cowering behind the podium" were my exact words). Contributions essay: (250 words) it was literally a "collage" of voices that impacted my growth and how i would bring along the knowledge i've gained from those voices to cal. Intended field essay (250 words): my major is psychology so i wrote about my experience with being a teacher's assistant and how psychology was a tool for me to help the students.

awesome, thanks for all the info cal girl. im at a 3.83, so i'll at least have a shot. i do need to get some EC's up though, thats the only thing im really lacking.

no problem. i've heard of people getting in with your GPA and just going to work. however, having EC's wouldnt hurt. be sure to think about your personal statement, even if you aren't going to apply anytime soon. i waited a month before it was due to even start--all three of them, and even though i got it in on time, the stress was not very pleasant. it is a daunting task, but it is so rewarding :)

The 2005 stats ARE up. Go to Berkeley's website. The average GPA for transfers went down--the 25-75% range now begins at 3.5. In 2004 it was 3.56.

can you send me a link, i can never find berkeleys stats
