Berkeley's American Cultures requirement

So, do most of us have this done, having completed IGETC? I think you should be able to check at ASSIST, but when I look for the articulation between my school and Berkeley, a blank page comes up. If this is still something I have to do, I'd like to get it out of the way my first semester.

Anyone? Gabe?

Hi!

Most of us don't have it done. I guess a couple comm colleges might have qualifying courses, but most don't. Most transfers have to complete it once they get to Berkeley; it's a Berkeley requirement, not a UC requirement.

Okay, I thought it might have been something that History 17A/B could satisfy, but it doesn't look like it. Thanks!

I'm up to 11.38 posts a day on here. That's really sickening. I need to take a break.

I averaged 6.66 posts per day a while back.

Yes to Gabe's post, and everyone can check on Assist to see if they fulfilled it.

I've been around 10 per day recently, but luckily my long inactivity gives me a nice .74 :p

If no course is articulated on Assist, do you just assume that you have not taken any course to satisfy it? Or can we petition for credit by exemption?

Ahh, this is going to affect my schedule. I thought the AC requirement HAD to be completed at UCB.

can anyone help me ? :(

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer Card... If it helps any, I asked my Cal advisor about race/ethnic politics and Asian American history courses I completed at CCC, and was told I would still have to complete the AC req at UCB... :(

^ Ahhh, hehe thanks nicopico. In any case, I think I'm going to complete it next summer in a six week session (Since the lease for my apartment is one year, I might as well be in Berkeley for some of it).

The AC req does not have to be completed at UCB but there are few colleges that offer something comparable to it so most of us come into Berkeley without it completed. As for me, im a psych major and am going to kill two birds with one stone by taking cultural psych. (giving me credit towards my major as well as getting the AC req out of the way) There might be something in your major that satisfies it as well. But if not, you still need 6 upper division units outside your major (if you're in L&S), so that could double up there. You're probably gonna end up satisfying the req without even realizing it.
Cardinal- If you feel that you have taken something that sounds comparable to the courses offered at UCB then i guess you could petition.

DVC offers a ton (around 6 lol) courses that fullfill the AC requirement...in fact, one of them is even part of igetc. talk about getting double credits.

^Haha natalie06, I was actually gonna take cultural psych next summer (Since its three units and I have an okay background in psych). It's also three units over six weeks versus four units over six weeks. So I'm assuming less work? Idk, it sounds interesting regardless. :)
