Is anybody out there familiar with Cal's joint EECS/Nuclear Engineering degree program? It seems very interesting to me, but I'm wondering if it is an impossibly difficult program. Also, it seems that this degree sort of traps you into the world of power distribution. In addition, I have heard that jobs in nuclear energy are very difficult to come by, and I have heard that most successful nuclear engineers get their PhDs.

Any info would be great!

many of the current nuclear engineers are retiring or in the retiring age. And nuclear power is making a come back. you won’t have any problems finding a job if you can get through the program.

and yeah the degree would definitely point you into the power field. but engineering is undoubtably a broad major. You can do whatever you want with an engineering degree.

Nuclear engineering will only restrict you to areas where there are nuclear power plants.
