My son is waiting to hear from Berklee. From what I hear, the college has become much more selective this year. This was the first year that a live audition was required and apparently less than 50% are accepted. Does anyone have any thoughts or impressions regarding Berklee?

Hope he gets in. My son heard today (early action) and got in. We had already pulled all his other apps because he already got in to his other top choice. McNally Smith in St.Paul

Good Luck

My daughter received an acceptance letter today from Berklee and frankly I have mixed emotions. I support her decision to attend any school she chooses but we are from Mississippi and she has lived in a small town all her life. We plan on making a trip to Boston soon to help finalize her decision, although she has not ruled out several other schools ( all of which are closer to home ) she seems to be very excited about Boston. I hope to see where some of the other students considering Berklee are from.
Thanks and good luck to all.

We were fortunate that our son took a long weekend program up there last summer so we saw the school. It's defintely different from where his 2 brothers currently are in college. With that said it is Boston one of the great college towns in the country. It won't be a typical college campus since it's in the city but it's Berklee whose reputation gets stronger each year. If there is a way you can e-mail me privately I would be more than happy to talk to you.
What is your daughters music- voice, instrument ? He is Bass Guitar with a minor in Music Business.

Good Luck

Oh I forgot to mention we are from New Jersey. His brothers are in Vermont and California so to us this is close!

I'm so happy to hear from other Berklee people. Anyhow, my son did get in early action to Berklee for piano. He also got a nice size merit scholarshp from the World Scholarship Tour. It is definitely his first choice, but we are encouraging him to finish the rest of his auditions. Would love to hear more from laps5 and others. He is a jazz pianist but wants to do a double major in performance and songwriting. He feels that Berklee will offer him more of what he really wants to do as compared to the other conservatories (MSM, Suny Purchase, NEw School) which are strictly jazz and jazz composition.

My son is a Bass player and will major in performance and either minor or have a double major in music business. He pulled his other apps after he got into his other top choice-knowing he would go to that if he didn't get in Berklee.

My son messed up and did not get his transcript in in time for early action though he did do the audition during the early action period. He got a letter this week telling him he is in the group to be considered for regular admission. We are guessing this is good because it at least is not a rejection. He is very nervous - -waiting to hear from 4 schools, has an audition in 2 weeks at Rowan, accepted at Towson and heard he was not invited to an audition at 2 schools. He is a drummer!! So, as he said, his audition at Miami went VERY WELL but last year there were 40 drummers for 4 spots. After you take out legacies (which he is not), prodigies (which he is not), and friends of a professor (which he is not) it doesn't leave a lot of room. At least he has one acceptance and since he only cares about jazz, Towson is a very good choice. But as a mom, I hope he gets at least one more so he feels he is making a choice.

Check out McNally Smith College of Music in St.Paul. We were very impressed with it
