Berklee Housing Information Anyone?

A friend's granddaughter is planning on going to Berklee in the fall. Apparently housing is not guaranteed. I have a child at another school in Boston and he just rented an apartment but it wasn't cheap and he has been living there in a dorm for three years so he was very familiar with the territory. I am going to put them in touch with the realtor he used.

This girl is coming from California and is 18, it will be difficult for her to fly out to look at places and it might not be great for her to live alone her freshman year. Does anyone have any tips re: housing at Berklee? Do they have any sort of service which matches students with others who are seeking roommates? Any other tips would be most welcome. I will pass them on to the family.

ebeeee, using the realtor your son used is an excellent first step. I don’t think there is inexpensive housing in Boston.

The poster PamelaMaeSnap has a daughter at Berklee. You might want to pm her for some Berklee housing info or links.

Thanks Violadad. Will do.

ebeeee - presumably the student has gone ahead and completed and returned all the housing application materials (and deposit) in a timely fashion (ie. quickly after receipt of the materials following acceptance) – I do think Berklee makes every effort to get housing for freshmen and she should check her Berklee e-mail address confirming receipt of the materials by the housing department.

Also, there is an entire section on housing on the Berklee website including a link to connect entering/returning students with one another including listings of available apartments, roommate wanted situations, etc.

A Boston realtor will charge a steep fee for apartment rentals. I’d opt to try the Berklee housing link first.

Thanks. That was my thought too and I will pass on the information. My son is going to a Boston apartment 9/09 and the fees were steep. Not to mention that he is a 21 year old male who has lived in the city for three years. If it were my new to Boston 18 year old girl I would want her with roommates or in a dorm.
