Does anyone know anything about the Berkshire School? Good, Bad?

Their dorms seemed very new. They have really good hockey. Their main classroom building, Berkshire Hall, is newly (:/) renovated. Nice overall campus. Near Great Barrington (!!!)

Beautiful campus, but no swimming pool, 3 hockey rinks. Small school under 400 I believe.

Large asian population, few URM.

My current english teacher went there and loved it.

Good or bad rep.?

I am considering the Berkshire school. I am a good student and an athlete. I am looking for more rigorous academics and athletics. Is Berkshire the right school? Does anyone have any further information about the Berkshire School?

If you’re looking for a rigorous challenging curriculum with highly motivated students to keep you on your toes, Berkshire is not the place. It is absolutely beautiful and a very nurturing school environment. If you need to be pushed, nurtured, and helped in a warm environment, then go to Berkshire. If you can hit the ground running and take on a rigorous academic schedule, then go somewhere else.

Prepveteran, tell me more about why you think that Berkshire doesn’t have highly motivated students & challenging curriculum. Web site (their PR of course) makes it sound like it does…

^I remember reading somewhere how a teacher from taft who transferred to B commented on that. they said something like : B work is not t work. at t, theres work every/every other day. at b there’s work every other week, and then you rest up.

also, i was reading their online paper and there was an article where a PG ,who was a 4 yr student, said that he would not fair well in college with the writing skills he possessed before PG-ing.

take this w/ a grain of salt.

The new sports center is very impressive. Campus is pretty. Girls can be clicky. I know a girl who goes there. Theres like no town. Academics are ok. If you need strong academics in that area, go to Hotchkiss, but again theres no town, just cows.

^ the next town over [Great Barrington] is v.v. niccce

“I am looking for more rigorous academics and athletics. Is Berkshire the right school?”

I would agree with those who have said that if this description is what you really want in a boarding school, Berkshire might not be the school for you. In general, Berkshire is perceived to be an OK school with average academics and athletics compared to other boarding schools. If you feel that your current school has academics and athletics that are significantly below average, then you will find Berkshire’s curriculum wholesome and challenging. If not, then chances are Berkshire won’t be much of a change.

Berkshire school? As in Berkshire Hathaway? Does the school have any connection to Warren Buffet or the company?

^No…

I looked at the school’s admission materials and I wasn’t pulled in. They’re outdoors obsession wasn’t for me and the school is very rural.

I feel that most schools with rolling admission tend not be as strong academically as schools that have admission deadlines. But it all depends what you are looking for
