Best A.P. Classes for a Freshman?

Hi so I’m currently in the 8th grade and I’m going into the 9th grade in September. I’m in a gifted program so this year I’m already taking the Living Environment regents & the algebra 1 regents. I want to take ap classes during my freshman year but I’m not sure what would be best. Any suggestions on the best/easiest classes to take/ exams to self study? Thank you in advance.

Maybe AP Stats. AP Psych. Human Geography. Environmental Science. They are considered easy. (Which makes me think why bother?) Why the need to do
AP freshman year? If I were you I would concentrate on prepping for the heavy hitters later in your HS career by building a good foundation now: AP Calculus, AP US History, AP English, AP language, a science but u can’t self study for that.

Thankyou I might go for Ap psych.

I would recommend AP Psych. It is pretty much only memorization (which shouldn’t prove difficult) and will introduce you to the work required.

I recommend AP Human Geography or AP Psychology. Those are generally regarded as the easiest AP Class. I took APHG my freshman year and got a 5 without studying (I didn’t know you had to; I don’t recommend that)

Hey there!
I’m currently in 8th grade too! I think as a freshman, you don’t have a lot of choices in terms of AP classes, but there’s definitely a few that you can take as a freshman. The classes that comes to mind are AP Psych & AP Human Geo. Some of my friends even got recommended for AP Environmental Science! Or you can possibly even take (if offered), AP Comp Sci Prin, a class I’m currently enrolled in.

@Alllviiinnn thanks also since you’re in 8th grade check out: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20710267#Comment_20710267

The class of 2021 thread.

I just checked it out, thanks!

AP Human geography is especially designed to introduce freshmen and sophomores to the rigors and format of AP. Most students do poorly and don’t pass the exam, but it helps them master the methodology, approach, and academic demands of later AP courses.
I think it’s the only AP course you should take - remember, in Stanford’s words " it’s not a game if who has the most AP 's wins".
If you want to add one, perhaps AP CS Principles may work - it’s project-based, which G/T do well in, and it is a multifaceted introduction to CS that can be the first one sequence.
What will the rest of your schedule look like?
You should take the highest level freshman class in math, English, foreign language, social science, and science. One art class, and/or if you’re ambitious you could take level1 in a new foreign language in order to have two foreign languages throughout high school (something few students have). You can also double up in science (typically that means bio and chem taken the same year. In that case you shouldn’t also take AP CS P).
Then you’ll have involvement in many clubs - freshman year is to decide what you like, so sample everything and have fun.

I did AP World as a freshman

Whatever APs they offer to as a freshman. At my school they offered AP Euro exclusively to freshmen so I did that.

It depends on what your HS will let freshman take.

For science, taking Honors Bio, Chem, Physics and at least one AP version of those is more important than taking
AP Environmental Science just because it is an AP class.

Getting through Calculus (hopefully AP Calc AB at a minimum) is more important than taking AP Stats.

So let us say you take AP Human Geography. Will any colleges accept it for credit if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP exam? Check out your state college and other colleges of interest to see if they do.

Like @MYOS1634 says, it is more important to take the highest level English, Math, Foreign Language, Science (Bio, Chem, Physics) and social science you can. Concentrate on these core classes and if AP fits in, then great. But don’t quit Spanish freshman year to take an AP.
