Hi guys, I'm a rising senior and I'm going to take the ACT in September. I was wondering what the best book(s) for learning how to take the ACT are. I got a 2380 on the SAT so I think most of the knowledge is there, i'm mainly looking for books that will give me a realistic sense of what the test will be like (I have no idea what to expect on the Science section), and also possibly some strategies (I've heard that the ACT time crunch is much worse than the SAT). Any suggestions?

I used my cousin's 2002 PR prep book for the ACT my freshman year (2007) and walked out with a 31.

PR is the best.

Any other suggestions? How about "The Real ACT" i heard that was pretty good. How's Kaplan?

Why are you taking the ACT if you got a 2380 on the SAT? Is it that you just don't want to take the subject tests?

I took subject tests too, I just wanted to take the ACT just in case i need it for scholarships and stuff like that. I'd also like to see if I could get a 36 if possible. Any suggestions on how to study and for other books?

Personally, i dont' think you need to take the ACT, but whatever.
Ummm, Princeton Review is good for review on all the subject areas, especially english. They're not too good on the reading strategies.
McGraw Hill's for the most practice tests, but I heard the tests are too easy by some and that they rock by others.
Real ACTs is a musthave too, along with PR, because of the practice tests. Many say that their practice tests are accurate to the score you'll get on the real thing.
Barron's is too hard on their practice tests,. but good for science.
Kaplan, i don't know. But get it just for practice I suppose.

That's coming from everything I've read on CC about ACTs. I'm taking them in September. Good luck for the 36 :P

For strategies--> Princeton Review, Procrastinator's Guide
For getting a better sense of the format and what to expect--> McGraw's 10 Real ACT's, The Real ACT Guide, "Preparing For The ACT" booklet

I used the comprehensive book/online addition from Kaplan and I felt that it was pretty good. It gives practice tests, key math concepts, top grammar tips, subject workouts, and it's all put together in an easy to understand format and a relaxed tone.

I felt pretty comfortable with Kaplan. Plus, they have all sorts of other SAT/ACT prep features online which I found really useful!

Just remember doing practice tests over and over and over and over again is the BEST way to study!

Thanks for the tips everyone! I think I'm gonna buy Princeton Review and The Real ACT, I really appreciate everyone's input!
