Which of these prep books are good in terms of the content, not the tests? I have the red book for tests, but I want to know which book is good in terms of the content/strategies/information. The books I have are:

DO NOT use McGraw Hill as the ACT is coming up soon, assuming you are taking the one in April.

McGraw Hill contains way too many errors to be of aid to you this late in the testing season. Also, its style is much different compared to the real ACT.

It would be best to stick with REAL practice tests now. However, I have heard Princeton review is a good preparation tool similar to the real ACT.

Do not use Barron’s 16 Edition. I have found non sequitur dilemmas in the mathematical explanations, and, dare I say it, ERRORS! I have also found that after making a 28 on the ACT as a sophomore, my scores did improve by A SINGLE POINT after doing the entire mathematics section review on the in-book practice exams. Furthermore, the diagnostic test predicted significantly lower scores for me than I actually scored on the ACT a year ago in Reading and Science, and I believe this is due to their selection of material.

Sadly this is the only book I have used, and it has come to bite me in the butt. For SAT, I used the Blue Book, and I speak from experience that using test makers’ prep books WORKS–I made a CR620, M700, W800 (E11), and that follows the order that I studied them in–to no coincidence. I strongly advise using the Red Book–I am going to pick one up tomorrow to replace this lousy Barron’s 16th Edition!

[Also, not to advertise, but I have a similar post above this one regarding test books. I would appreciate input there as well! :)]

Yes. The REAL ACT PREP GUIDE… There is an edition with 3 tests and another with 5. So, make sure to get the one with 5, that way you can get more for your money.

The Real ACT Prep Guide, the only one made by the actual ACT people, is the ONLY one you should use if you’re serious about scoring really high on this test. The other ones are decent, but I don’t trust them.
