Best ACT Prep. Book?!

Hey guys going to take my first act next month and I need a good act book that will help me overall. I have Kaplan 2009 and 2016. And another book I haven’t looked at yet but need a book I can order online and get quick to study from. Need a book to help me practice for the test! Which book helped you increase your scores?

Also any tips for me :)?

Thanks in advance!

Do NOT use Kaplan, Princeton, or Barron, because these are not real practice tests, and they can’t accurately teach you the ACT testmakers’ logic. If you look closely at Barron science sections, for example, and compare to actual ACT science sections, you’ll find that Barron is staggeringly difficult.

My suggestion is the Big Red (The official ACT prep guide), which can be purchased pretty easily on Amazon. And also the past released ACTs (if you can get those). Whatever you choose to study from, remember this: always study materials produced by the ACT itself.

■■■■■■■■.com. Pair all all of these tests with Barron’s for the English section and the red book for everything else.

I agree and also disagree with AmericanGothic. I agree with the fact that the Big Red book is the prep book that is most like the official ACT. However, I disagree with the opinion that you shouldn’t practice with Barron’s just because they are harder than the official ACT. If you practice consistently with a little bit harder materials, then come test time, you will feel more than ready to conquer the test. So basically what I’m saying is that practicing with harder material (Barron’s Prep Book) won’t hurt you in any way I can think of.

The Real ACT red book is good. Barron’s is good to use too for stretching the limits. If you study with harder material, it will make the real test that much easier. Doing timed Barron’s tests is even better.

Thanks to all of you for your answers! Pretty nervous about this test and get barely anytime to study with classes

The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. The 3rd edition of the Real ACT Book (Red Book) has 5 tests to get you started. They are old, but you will get a feel for most of the concepts. Then move on to released tests from 2013/2014/2015. Using the work throughs in the Black book is also very helpful.

*****DO NOT USE THE READING PROMPTS IN THE RED BOOK. Use the materials a at this link instead: http://www.actstudent.org/writing/enhancements/

TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.

English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min

Score your test, and then review only what you got WRONG after each practice session.

I suggest the following schedule:

Take 1 section each week night/with review for 4 nights/week.

Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.

Track your progress!

Here is a detailed sample schedule to get started, modify it to meet your needs:

Mon: English section with review

Tues: Math section with review

Wed:. Reading Section with review

Thu. Off

Fri: Science Section with review

Sat: FULL ACT with review

Sun: Off

Any other tips? (Bump)
