I've been studying ACT about 2.5 years, and here are best prep books for each
subjects (I improved from 28 to 34)

First, I want to tell you to SAVE!!! the real redbook until you are all prepared.
Unlike Collegeboard, ACT rarely release real test materials.

English:
-Princeton Review was decent (very similar to real)
-McGraw Hills would be great for beginners (bit easier than real IMO)
-Barron's was OK but emphasizes on weird stuff (I dont really recommend because it
discourages you so much)

Reading:
McGraw Hills is too easy, passages are too short!
Barron's is wayyy to hard. (answer choices are very similar, it's sort of like SAT style)
Princeton Review was moderate.
Spark notes is little bit harder than real IMO.

Math:
I would recommend any books except for barron's (studying math section from barron's act help me with SATII MATH2C LOL)

Science:
McGraw Hills and Spark notes were bit easier. (I got 36 for the first time with Spark notes)
Barron's was OK (difficulty fluctuates so much passage by passages, and datas are very confusing)
Princeton Review was closest to real.

Overall, I recommend
Princeton Review 1296 ACT questions
McGraw Hills ACT
Princeton review regular ACT prep
Barrons ACT 36 (For learning about ACT, not for practice tests)
Real ACT red book (After you done all your preps!!!)
