What are the best books on how to write an college admissions essay?

The classic application essay book is Harry Bauld's "On Writing the College Application Essay." Everybody recommends it. I just started reading it yesterday, and it seems quite good. It is written in a humorous and informative style. It is also very concise. But the one thing I worry about is that the book was published in 1987. That is 18 whole years ago...admissions and how officers perceive essays must have changed in that large time span, right?

Read Harry Bauld's book 2 times and then begin your essays. Keep a journal open jotting down ideas of your own while you read it the second time. Don't put off writing so that you can ask a trusted person for honest reactions. Revise revise until it is written in your voice and sounds natural.

Thanks Faline. Reading it twice is probably a good idea. Do it, it's not that long.

A is for Admissions is also a good book.

A is for Admission was the best book we bought for practical things like filling out all the forms. It was easy to digest and didn't give you a heart attack like Ms. Cohen's books. I do recommend a Cohen book for upgrading your Activity (brag) sheet, however. She had good Before and After examples.

I just read "how to write a winning college application essay"
That's a nice book

What do you think about the Peterson's Best College Admissions Essays by Mark Alan Stewart?

I haven't read that book yet. What do you guys plan to write about?
I intend to write something about political issues.
