I want to bump my ACT score from a 28 to a 30. I have only taken the ACT twice (and once was today), but both times I pretty much had a panic attack during the reading, and science. Today I ran out of time on math, reading, and science so from that I’m just assuming I did terrible. When I take practice tests at home I never run out of time but when I take the actual test I pretty much freeze up. Math is usually never a problem for me except today, so can anyone please give me advice on how to finish the reading and science within the time limit. I just get very overwhelmed and it messes me up.
The more you practice, the less overwhelming the material will seem.
I would suggest practicing with less than the allotted time (i.e. try to finish science in 30 mins. instead of 35). This will really help you work faster.
I tutor for both tests. I actually tell students not to time themselves when they first start practicing. I think it’s more useful to take a number of parctice tests untimed and become very familiar with how questions and answers are phrased. Always look up incorrect answers to see what you did wrong. Introduce timing section by section, starting with your easiest subject. I think this helps boost your confidence. Then take a couple of practice tests in simulated test conditions.
I actually have a tutor that I have been using since August and he used that method with me. Are there any strategies for English and Science that you have seen work well with your students?
when i studied I did 2 types of practice. Either i would check every problem as i go, or I would take a full practice test giving myself half the time. This way I got a perfect score guaranteed.
